  • Well-equipped static caravan in a quiet sole-use setting
  • A five-minute drive from Forks, home of the Twilight saga
  • On the banks of the Sol Duc River with great fishing nearby
Folk who fancy a taster of touring life but don’t have so much faith in their manoeuvring abilities, this one’s for you. Stay in the aptly-named Recreational Vehicle, parked up three miles from the Washington town of Forks, and you can sample a stay in one of these mighty vehicles without any need to navigate her anywhere. And what a vehicle she is – a sleek 16-footer in prime condition with her own generator and kitted out with all the bits you need for a comfy time on board with a family of four or five, including bedding, easy chairs and a dining area. A small kitchen and bathroom are also inside, and you can extend the living space out into the open air by stretching out the attached awning for a bit of shade. And what a fine spot she’s been parked in too… she’s the only caravan at this peaceful spot, so there’s plenty of space for a campfire, a barbecue or a wander through the greenery to the banks of the Sol Duc River. So, what of the surrounds? If the name Forks rings a bell it could well be because it’s the setting for Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight series, so guests here can follow in the footsteps of Bella, Edward and pals. Not into such things? Take a tour of the timber museum or set off to one of the local rivers for some excellent fishing spots.

Local attractions

Would you like to learn a little more about wood? Of course you would – so it’s off to the Forks Timber Museum, at the south end of the town (10 minutes’ drive) for a look at how local history ties in with the timber industry and to see exhibits about loggers of the past and their tools of the trade. Fun fact – the museum was built by the clever carpentry class of Forks High School in 1989. Vampire hunters will note that the majority of the Twilight films weren’t actually shot in Forks, but tours can be taken of the locations described in Meyer’s original books – both in town and out in the surrounds. Those same scenic surrounds make a fine place for a hike, a bike ride or a horseback adventure. It’s the rivers that are the big draw, though – there’s top-notch winter steelhead fishing in the Sol Duc, Hoh, Bogachiel and Calawah rivers, and king salmon can be hooked nearby too. Fishing gear can be picked up locally, and guides are available for hatchery runs and float trips.
