Local attractions

Campground guests can enjoy the many area attractions that Kansas provides. Lawrence is known for its historical roots. The town was founded by New England abolitionists in an effort to ensure Kansas would become a Free State, Lawrence was burnt during Quantrill's massacre in 1861. The resilience of the people here has continued over time and provides the town with a great history. Downtown Lawrence is known for its historical presence: filled with farmer markets, antique shops, sidewalk pubs and cafés, upscale clothing and gift shops. Lawrence is also proud to be home to two great universities, the Jayhawks University of Kansas and the first and largest inter-tribal University, the Haskel Indian Nations University. Communities surrounding Lawrence will surprise, delight and entertain you. Topeka, the state capitol, is less than an hour west of Lawrence. Enjoy the scenic drive along the KAW Valley and be sure to stop by the town of Lecompton on the way to visit Constitution Hall, the first territorial capitol of Kansas. To the north is the beautiful Missouri River valley with towns such as Atchison, the birthplace of Amelia Earhart and St. Joseph where Jesse James lived, loved and died. Heading south are the charming towns of Baldwin City and Ottawa and of course, you won't want to miss all the shopping, great restaurants and attractions that Kansas City has for you to experience. During October, the campground plays host to the North Lawrence Haunted Barn - you'll love the fun during the Spooktacular weekends!
