Tent and campervan pitch
Campsite with a view of the bäderhorn
Tent pitch sheltered by trees
Pitches overlooking the gastlosen range

  • Alpine campsite with spectacular views of the Gastlosen massif
  • Jaun two hours by bike and Bäderhorn 20 minutes’ drive
  • Playground, games and a TV room on site, plus a shop and snack bar
Ever wanted to pitch up amid lush pine forest overlooking the Bernese Alps? Here’s your chance, for at Camping Jaunpass, 15 minutes’ drive from Boltigen in the Obersimmental-Saanen, all the pitches have views of the rocky peaks of the Gastlosen massif. And this site is not just spectacular, it’s also very family friendly. Thoughtful facilities to make your holiday go with a swing include modern shower facilities with bags of hot water, washing machines and a drying room. There’s a baby-changing room and a kids’ playground, plus all sorts of activities like ping pong, table football, darts and boccia (a bit like pétanque). You can also get together and watch TV in the communal space when you need some quiet downtime. So you have plenty to keep kids occupied then. But what about food? That’s all sorted too, thanks to a shop at reception, which is well-stocked with all the staples like fresh bread, regional cheeses and cold meats, pasta, rice and chilled white wine. Not keen on cooking? Kids’ favourites like pizza and burgers are served in the snack bar, along with local dishes like fondue and schnitzel.

What customers say

This campsite offers breathtaking mountain views and is praised for its friendly, multilingual staff and excellent, clean facilities, including hot showers and good washing-up areas. While some find the pitches cramped and more akin to a car park, the stunning location, quiet atmosphere, and on-site amenities like a shop and restaurant are highly regarded. The challenging mountain access road is noted by some.

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Just wow. I knew Switzerland in summer would be spectacular but it was amazing to me camping in the middle of the mountains with a pass that was a quality fun road to get there.

Staff at campsite were very helpful lending us the required huge long electric cable needed to reach their Leccy point. Toilet block was immaculate with brilliant showers Immaculately clean no matter what time you used them so hats off to the cleaner.

Nice on site restaurant and cafe. Beautiful local walks.

Disliked Absolutely nothing to dislike. What a wonderful place. Be aware that the touring sites aren’t the biggest and close to your neighbours but our van with big awning just fitted fine. There is plenty space all around around you just outside the pitches as you wander into nature

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lots of toilets and showers in separate cubicles. Good washing up facilities. Easy to use grey waste disposal.
Option to order bread for the morning, freshly baked!
Friendly and multilingual staff.

Disliked Pitches quite close together but fine for 1 night. Enough space for van and awning but no designated pitches.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely quiet location in the hills bar the sound of cow bells, which while some complain about, we find very nice. Clean washing facilities, still nice even though they are showing their age.

Disliked Car parking is somehow not included for tent campers, despite it saying it is on pitchup and there being plenty of space in the land of the site. I was advised to pay the local public parking rate and park my car far from the tent but eventually negotiated a spot closer to the tent, but at an even higher price. Given the price of the camping, a car nearby should be included even if that means less camper vans can be sold spaces...

Electric optional hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The views are breathtaking, the female staff who tried to speak English and help where they could, they also kept the facilities very clean and welcoming. Bath for small children

Disliked Advertised as unlimited pitch, we were put on a patch of grass, there was 1 metre between our camper and the next caravan, the man who shows you to your pitch is abrupt and impatient as he directs you into the position he wants you pitched in (sandwiched like a sardine)

the lack of guidance given to you when staying regarding facilities etc, we had to google translate with another camper to find out where you put waste and recycling

the cows bells outside your tent all night and SO many flies

Local attractions

Active types will no doubt be itching to discover the Bernese Alps on foot or by bike; expert hikers can yomp up the Bäderhorn (20 minutes’ drive) for stunning views to Mont Blanc from the summit. There’s a popular and way-marked loop through the Gastlosen massif from Musersbergli car park (15 minutes) that’s good for competent teenage walkers, and if you’re with younger kids, a gentle hike through alpine meadows around the campsite may suffice. Cyclists can take the switchback road through a steep mountain pass up to Jaun (around two hours by bike), a gorgeous village of traditional chalets with steep pitched roofs tucked into the mountain foothills. If you need a picnic spot, plonk yourselves down on the banks of the dramatic waterfall just outside the village. When you’re staying at Camping Jaunpass in late November, there may already be a scattering of snow. While the ski resorts don’t officially open until the end of December, you can get out on the slopes with the kids to have rollicking snowball fights or try out snowshoeing.
