Camping Monterroso

Liked: A basic site close to an excellent pool and snack bar which the teens could go to independently. It’s free and there is a large lawn and lots of picnic benches where locals come. The river has a path which is good for dog walks. The toilet and showers are good condition (heat variable showers which is always good). There is free WiFi if you sit at the entrance where there are chairs. The staff are friendly and also run the snack bar by the pool/river where the menu of the day is worth checking out. They also serve breakfasts and you can order bread and croissants. The site is close enough to the small town to walk up and have a wander round the cafes and shops and there is a decent supermarket there. Anything else you’ll need to get in the car (visit Lugo, Ourense and Santiago all within an hour or so).

Disliked: Only a minor thing but make sure you have an adapter for the electric as they are old style plugs (the owners kindly leant us one). Make sure to include all your equipment/awnings/tents on the booking form (though I’m not sure if there is an option to go into detail) as we were charged more than our initial booking when we arrived because the owner added on our awning which caused some confusion (it came to the same amount as the deposit so we thought he was charging us the pitch up commission again).

Liked: Super friendly and super helpful. Was made very welcome. Facilities are clean. Pool nearby was fantastic. Not too far from Camino, we used a taxi for logistics. Highly recommend!

Liked: Sehr schöner Platz Sehr ruhig. Sehr nettes Personal immer hilfsbereit und freundlich. Wir kommen auf jedenfall wieder. Anlage ist zwar etwas in die Jahre gekommen wird aber sehr gepflegt.

Liked: What a great little rustic site. Just what we like. Clean where it needs to be but still feels like camping. Plenty hot water, electricity, 4G (and wifi but we didn't use it) water at every pitch, bins and recycling. Even dish drying racks at the semi outdoor dish wash area. Laundry and clothes racks to borrow if you need them and you can order bread for the morning. Pools not open yet (no problem) and the little cafe bar though simple in menu, was fantastic! Delicious grilled steak (churrasco) with fries and amazing grilled padron peppers. E14 each with bread, wine and coffee. Sorry we are only able to stay one night. And very friendly and helpful owners. Some English spoken.

Liked: Le calme et le confort de ce camping. L’accueil est vraiment super !! Les gens du camping étaient très gentils et arrangeant. Je ne peux que recommander ce camping !

Liked: The site managers were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The site was quiet and peaceful and was about a 15 walk into town (up a very steep hill).

Disliked: The site needs some TLC. The showers and toilet block were gloomy and need to be updated, although clean. The electricity supply was intermittent and wi-if was only available close to reception.

Liked: Lovely hosts, very peaceful location. Stayed open for us to do an extra night despite desperately needing a rest. Toilet paper in toilets, against previous reviews.

Liked: The campsite it very tidy and clean, the toilets and showers were excellent. The warden Xavier could not of been more helpful and welcoming with nothing being too much trouble.great location, right next to the open air swimming pool and cafe.
