Slap bang on Catalonia’s Costa Dorada coastline, Kampaoh L’Almadrava is a luxurious little enclave of glamping tents set among trees 10 minutes’ drive from the handsome seaside resort of L’Ametlla de Mar. Your well-appointed and spacious tent will be ready and waiting for you, already set up and equipped with everything you need for a happy and chilled family holiday. What you can expect: the bed prepared with linen and pillows, bath towels and a fridge in your tent, plus table and chairs for eating alfresco... What you need to bring: you and the family, beachwear and sun cream. You’ll be grateful that you didn’t need to hang around putting up at the tent when you realise there’s direct access to Platja de l’Almadrava beach. Hotfoot it down there to stroll along the sands, go rock pooling, top up your tan and cool off in the Mediterranean Sea – or add to your sporting skills by kayaking along the shoreline. In addition to all of the above, you also get to use all the facilities of sister campsite Camping Alannia Costa Dorada, including the pool complex, spa with Jacuzzis and restaurant.

Local attractions

Lazy days on the beach calling you? Quiet Platja de l’Almadrava is a couple of minutes’ stroll from your pitch. Platja de l’Arenal (10 minutes’ drive) is a wide expanse of sand popular with surfers and paddleboarders and backed by a few chilled bars, while Platja del Torn (also 10 minutes) is the spot for getting a discreet all-over tan. If you’d rather be exercising than sunbathing, make straight for the network of hiking trails in the rugged foothills of the Reserva Natural Llaberia (half an hour), or explore the Cova de Nadell hiking area (20 minutes), which has spectacular views across to the Med from La Portella de l’Arturo viewpoint (55 minutes’ walk). Back down on the coast, you can spot wading birds on wetland strolls in Parc Natural del Delta de l’Ebre (40 minutes’ drive). Arty types can take an informative guided tour of Fundació Mas Miró (20 minutes) to learn more about the work of Jean Miró, while visitors will be dazzled by the colourful and creative interiors of landmark Modernist mansion Casa Navàs (35 minutes). Kids not happy with all this culture? Reward their patience with a day on the adrenaline rides at PortAventura World (25 minutes).
