For here you have… not only a Costa Brava setting a short drive from golden Mediterranean beaches and the foothills of the Pyrenees, but also stunning surrounds of trees and countryside, with facilities to keep you fully active or fully relaxed for weeks. Among the highlights are a spectacular outdoor waterpark with main pool, paddling pool, lap pool for the serious swimmers, and bubbly relaxation options including a Jacuzzi, whirlpools, a sauna and a spa. There's a wellness area on site too, with treatments from massages to Shiatsu for your deserving bod and visage. Kids and toddlers are, of course, well sorted too, whether they fancy organised activities at the summer clubs or prefer to charge around the playground or mini disco. Bigger kids and grownups also have squash, tennis, miniature golf, indoor football and a fitness centre to tempt them, possibly with a session at the spa to feel virtuous at afterwards. Local attractions

Mas Sant Josep is two and a half kilometres from Santa Cristina d'Aro, the Baix Empordà town that's home to Spain's first house of magic, the biggest of its kind in the world. For Mediterranean beaches, the closest chunk of coast is six kilometres away. A popular option close by is Castell-Platja d'Aro (five minutes' drive), made up of the seaside resort of Platja d'Aro and the medieval centre of Castell d'Aro. Wander around the castle and medieval market first, then hire surfing and other watersports kit at the beach or book a diving trip around these calm and clear waters. Going further afield, Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar are 30 and 35 minutes' drive away, Girona is 40 minutes' drive and you can reach Barcelona in about an hour and 20 minutes.
