How to get some tent time when you don't have time to sort your tent? For a pre-pitched solution a few minutes' walk from the sunny beaches of the popular Costa Brava, there's Villatent at Camping La Masia, where several spacious canvas units are available in the grounds of a family-friendly holiday park. These smart safari tents are in a shady part of the park, making them well-suited to afternoon siestas away from the heat. Inside, they have a good-sized camping kitchen, comfy beds in separate sleeping compartments and well-maintained private bathrooms comprising a toilet, shower and sink. Meanwhile, there's some outside space where you can sit and relax on outdoor furniture, not to mention plenty of other quiet corners elsewhere on site. You can expect a high standard of facilities here, including two outdoor pools, a wellness area complete with a spa, waterslides, a sports park, kids' playgrounds, a seasonal kids' club and two receptions staffed by friendly employees. There's a fair bit of after-hours entertainment too, particularly in the high season when the lively team sets up discos, tournaments, movie nights and shows for all the family. Handily, the site is also opposite a pharmacy and within a five-minute walk of a well-stocked local supermarket and several restaurants.

Local attractions

Out in Blanes (a few minutes' walk to five minutes' drive) you'll be entertained with bars, restaurants and seafront tourist shops, as well as a miniature golf course, go-karting, a botanical garden and boat rental services. Out of town but also close to base are attractions such as Marineland Catalunya (10 minutes), a waterpark, and Castell de Mas Carbó (20 minutes), a semi-ruined castle in an impressive hilltop location. For big cities with a lot of attractive older architecture, head to Girona (45 minutes), where there's Roman heritage, a well-preserved Jewish quarter and gorgeous views over the Pyrenean foothills from the town's medieval walls. Barcelona (an hour), the capital of Catalonia, can also compete on the ancient architecture front – it has a cathedral first consecrated back in 1339 – but most people flocking here come for modern sights like Parc Güell and La Sagrada Familia. For something on a much smaller scale, drive out to the Natural Park of the Volcanic Garrotxa Zone (an hour) for mountain hikes and to tour Pyrenean villages. Vic (an hour and 10 minutes) is also worth a look– it has many impressive sites that could rival with Girona or Barcelona but is generally much less popular with tourists.
