Swimming pool and kids' pool

General

  • Family-friendly site directly opposite the beach in Calella
  • A 15-minute walk from a watersports centre with a range of activities
  • Freeform swimming pool and kids' pool with water play features

‘I must go down to the seas again,’ sighed poet John Masefield in his 1902 classic Sea Fever. He’d have found it easy to go to the sea as much as he liked if he’d spent his hols at Càmping Bonavista, a family site on the outskirts of the small resort of Calella.

The sea in question is of course the Mediterranean, and you can not only see it but wholeheartedly launch yourself into it from the beach just over the road from the site. There’s direct access to the small sandy beach via a footpath, and it's only 10 minutes further to reach the larger town beach if that's what you prefer. (A naturist beach is between the two, so make sure you turn the right way if you want to avoid a surprise – or if you care to merrily join in by casting your clothes asunder.)

You can splash about too at the site’s outdoor pool with various fountains and waterfalls; kids have their own shallow pool alongside. Keep an eye on them from the sun loungers on the terrace around the pool area; there are plenty of trees and parasols for shade too.

Other leisure options include a playground, a TV and games room, and sports areas for football, padel and pétanque. There's a restaurant too, along with a bar and outdoor terrace.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

From 1 July until 31 August, the site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only: bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted during this period.

This site is in a lovely location. Helpful staff took the caravan to the pitch for us. ( it’s very steep)
We ate at the restaurant twice, both times the burgers were really nice, fresh meat, and very tasty, but could have done with a few more chips on the side.
We could see the sea from our pitch which was lovely, especially to get up to in the morning.
The walk to the beach is short but steep as is to the pool, but manageable for us as a family.
The pool is very nice, it is clean salt and virtually chlorine free. The sun beds were a great addition and we always found some free for us all.
The showers were very clean, warm and I liked that they stayed on, not the annoying ones that go off every 10 seconds.
I would say this is overall a quiet site, however the bar music was very loud until midnight, after that it was quiet.
The tiered nature helped you to feel a little more private.
This was the best pitch we stayed at by the sea in Spain.
WiFi was good but 14 euros for 7 days. I think it should be included in your pitch fee.
The beach is way too busy at weekends, I would say only go in the week. However Calella beach is beautiful. Just a 5 min drive away.

    Disliked:

It was not made clear enough where to dispose of chemical waste. We made a blunder, and understandably the staff were annoyed but we genuinely only followed the vague instructions given. This was embarrassing for us as people very new to owning a caravan and getting used to what to do. There should be clear instructions, not just a man who says, up there, and down there!!! Every site has very different looking waste areas!
The gravel type pitch was very messy, everything was covered in a brown dust.

From the manager...

We are sorry we did not know how to better inform you about the chemical waste, we will try to improve this aspect, Thank you very much and see you soon

Local attractions

If seeing the sea has made you want to spend more time in or on it, pay a visit to the watersports centre at Calella, where you can sign up for a wide range of aquatic activities, including sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, paddleboarding, snorkelling and scuba diving. Lessons and kit hire are also available.

For historic attractions, take a walk to Las Torretas (10 minutes), military towers that were constructed in the mid-19th century. The buildings themselves are fairly ruined now but it’s a good place for kids to stage family battles and there are some great coastal views from here as well.

If you need a little bit of shelter on a hot day, head underground to the Refugio Antiaereo, the town’s air raid shelter, now opened up as a museum with a short film showing Civil War survivors talking about their experiences of spending time in the tunnels. You could also call in to the Museum of Tourism, which tells the story of how Calella became a tourist resort, as well as looking at the development of mass tourism around the world.

Away from the resort itself, the setting is well placed for a day trip to Barcelona; take the train from Calella and an hour later you can be wandering down Las Ramblas...
