General

  • Among spectacular scenery deep in the Cantabrian countryside
  • Surrounded by the Saja-Besaya Natural Park, 50 minutes from Santander
  • Big playground, restaurant, shop and bar terrace

Well, well. El Molino de Cabuérniga is your certain setting if you seek a site among spectacular scenery deep in the Cantabrian countryside. And in a walkers' paradise and wildlife haven: hike off from here to spy species including deer, boar, foxes and griffin vultures in the surroundings and Saja-Besaya Natural Park.

Going north towards the coast, beaches and fishing villages are around half an hour's drive north from El Molino's Cabuérniga locale, as is the Oyambre Natural Park for more wildlife watching among its dunes, cliffs and river estuaries. If you're venturing even further, Santander ferry port is within 50 minutes for Blighty-bound trips to Portsmouth and Plymouth.

El Molino is a lush looking site (pic time please), with greenery and flowers all around, roomy grass pitches and Cantabrian peaks rising in the distance. A river with a natural pool for swimming and splashing is a few minutes' walk away.

Back at base, there's a fine big playground for the kids to let loose at and loads of room to run around. For provisions (and the grownups), a handsome bar terrace is just outside the restaurant; a shop sells daily essentials, and the friendly El Molino team can point your hungry self in the direction of some excellent local restaurants.

Beautiful valley wooded setting with great facilities 17/10/2017

Beautiful setting and nice pitches with very friendly and helpful staff. Shower and toilet facilities very clean and good with plenty of hot water at no extra charges. As late in season we were free to pick any pitch. Kindly lent us an extension cable to connect to power as we has not got ours.
Very convenient for Santander ferry port at 50 mins away. Even though the camp shop has been wound down to bread and croissants they sold us some pork loins from their own kitchen as local shops shut due to fiesta. Definitely would use again. There are restaurants nearby.

A beautiful location and a very peaceful site, even though ... 14/08/2017

A beautiful location and a very peaceful site, even though it got very full during our second week. Toilet block, kitchen area etc very clean and well maintained. Great space around site for children to roam safely.

Lovely beaches and walking near-by. Comillas, San Vicente, Oyambre definitely worth a visit, weather-permitting. Santillana del Mar and Barcena Mayor (inland) also very charming. Really nice walking and barbecue areas in the woods behind Ucieda. Cabarceno Wildlife Park near Santander definitely worth the trek.

    Disliked:

Very limited tourist information available on site, which was disappointing given that the weather was not great and so we were looking for wet-weather activities. This is an area that get a lot of rain, it seems! Showers ran out of hot water a few times relatively early in the day, but generally were great. Only one washing machine, so you need to get up early to get access! Wifi very sporadic, especially when site was full.

Excellent facilities, but be prepared for rain! 14/08/2017

Wash/shower facilities very good. Probably the best camping shower I've ever had. People running the campsite bar very helpful and friendly. Bought bread daily and drinks occasionally, and price was very good. Beautiful location. River is a 3 min walk with a natural pool that the kids loved playing in. Pitches are reasonably sized - we fitted our Bear Lake 6, front extension and a tarp on the pitch. Power consistent and drinking water taps spread round the site. Wifi reached the pitches, but was a bit flaky. Couple of nice restaurants and a small supermarket within walking distance.

    Disliked:

Nothing to do with the campsite, but it's location means the weather isn't great. Beautiful place when its sunny, but quite often wet or raining at the campsite, when it was warm and sunny nearer the coast. Pitches not all flat, which could be a problem for camping with a big tent. Not too busy when we arrived, so we could choose a pitch that suited, but could have been a problem. Local tourist information is inadequate. Needed to do serious Google research to find the days out.

Everything. Arrived and booked an extra night. Site was peaceful yet still had a good bar area. Pitches were large enough for our very large camper. Facilities were good, very clean and modern. Great views of the local mountain area and within easy distance of the costal attractions. Staff exceptionally helpful and friendly - English speaking was a great bonus for us.

    Disliked:

Route in via village needs careful navigation as it is very narrow. There is an alternative but requires you to be able to walk the 100 meters of the village before committing if you have a large vehicle - we only had 1cm each side!!!

    Large and spacious site
Separate bathroom facilities for men and women which were very clean and well maintained throughout with lots of hot water etc.
Sandwich/bar area with free wifi for those addicted amongst us.
Add the very helpful reception into this mix and it was a lovely place to stay within an hour from Santander before touring further afield.
There’s also a lovely “local bar/café” just over 10mins walk from the site (on the small road that passes the village) which was recommend by reception and well worth a visit.
