General

  • Wooded site on the banks of the Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir
  • Well-placed for hikes on the popular Caminito del Rey trail
  • Sandy beach on the lake with swimming pier and boat hire

That lake – gorgeous colours, sí? If those are the kind of vistas you could live with for a little while, plot a course to Parque Ardales, right next to Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir and 15 minutes’ drive from El Chorro.

Watery glimpses through the pine trees can be had from many shaded spots on this site, with plenty of places for full-on gazing as well – from the strategically-placed picnic tables, perhaps, or the little sandy beach (from where you can also dive in to the water if the urge takes you).

Plenty of activity is on offer too – there are canoes and boats for hire, and you’re close to several fab hiking trails. There’s direct access to the Mirador del Somormujo hiking trail, and the Caminito del Rey trail (one of the most popular in this scenic locale) is easily accessed too. If you fancy delving further into the scenic surroundings, staff on site can offer advice on local canyoning, climbing, horse riding, fishing and paragliding.

But don’t feel compelled to spend all your time out and about – stick about on site for a game of padel tennis. It’s likely you’ll not want to stray far from your rural retreat for eats either, so you’ll be chuffed to hear that the mini market is well stocked and there’s a communal barbecue area for guests’ use (although note that you’ll need to check with staff first for safe cooking in this woodsy area).

This area is stunningly beautiful with interesting small white mountain villages dotted around with places to eat or just sit to have a coffee or beer all within an hour’s drive of the site. It’s an ideal location for walkers and cyclists. The pitch which we were allotted was idyllic with lake views from the front and the back of the tent. Due to it being relatively early in the holiday season the site was not too full and therefore quiet. We pitched up and spent 9 nights and 10 days in a very relaxing atmosphere. The site is ideally situated to visit many of the local points of interest and also travel that little bit further to the sea. We took our dog and the site was ideal as there were plenty of walks around. Kayaking around the lake was fun with spectacular views and scenery although with the cross winds a little challenging at times. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would definitely go back and recommend it.

    Disliked:

Maybe a few more ladies toilet facilities for the high season, it was fine while we were there but I think could get very busy in the height of the summer.

Location for doing the Caminito del Rey
    Showers good and clean
    Toilets clean

    Disliked:

Pitch size ok but access road and route onto pitch is almost impossible on some of the pitches including the one we where on.
No chemical emptying point does say this on pitch up but I didn’t check as assumed with all the other facilities they would have one.
    Our van is 7m long.
    WiFi just around reception area.

From the manager...

Thank you for your comments. We would like to say you that we have 2 chemical emptying point, one of them behind toilets and showers of the zone 2. And another next to showers and toilets of the zone 1. We are sorry you didn't ask to the reception, we had explained you where is it.

Regards.

    Loved it!

We’re two amateur campers - this was perfect for our first time camping in Spain! The site was lovely, clean, spacious, easy to find, staff were welcoming and helpful, and there was a great mix of experienced and less experienced campers while we were there. 100% will visit again.

Local attractions

Hikers are well served around these parts – ramble around the lake or take to the eight-kilometre Caminito del Rey, which uses boardwalks and tunnels to navigate around, along and through the area’s gorges.

For an insight into local wildlife, head up to Lobo Park, 45 minutes’ drive away, for a guided tour to see the native wolves up close. Close by, the El Torcal Natural Park is a fab place for a hike through strange-looking rock formations (and keep your eyes open for fossils as you roam too).

Around an hour away are the town of Antequera (to see the prehistoric dolmen and the medieval Alcazaba) and the seaside resorts of Marbella and Málaga.
