General
- Glamping in cosy wooden cabins on the banks of the Drava river
- Handy stopover on the Drava cycle route; 1.5km from Radlje ob Dravi
- Next to a natural swimming lake with beach and restaurant
To call the area around Green Resort ‘green’ is something of an understatement. The nearest town, Radlje ob Dravi (a kilometre and a half away) is one of the first clutch of proud destinations to be crowned with the Slovenia Green Silver designation, as a nod to its excellent sustainable and eco-friendly features.
And what inspired this move? Quite possibly the wish to preserve what’s also a mighty scenic area – around Koroška county it’s all mountains, forests, rivers and lungfuls of fab fresh air (a fine prospect for folks seeking hiking, biking, horse riding and the like on their hols).
Green Resort’s been set up in a prime position among all this, its views taking in not only a sizeable lake but also the Drava river, a mere few metres beyond. If the aquatic outlook has you inspired to take a dip, you need only trot next door to the natural swimming lake with its beach, playground, volleyball court, loungers and waterslide (not just for the kids – site staff suggest it’s equally suitable for silver sliders as well as small sorts).
Handily for those tasked with swim supervision, there’s a restaurant overlooking that lake; swing by during the day for burgers and ice creams or claim your terrace spot as evening approaches for drinks to toast the (often spectacular) sunset. Prefer to spend time à deux? Each of the cosy wooden cabins has its own little terrace kitted out with outdoor chairs and a hammock – ideal for daytime snoozes and evening couple chill time.

Fancy feeling some fab fresh water on your skin? Scoot on over to the Radlje Water Park waterpark next door for days of sunbathing on the beach and splashing in the waters. It’s all totally natural here – plants and sand are used as filters to keep the water clean and chemical-free so it’s particularly fine for sensitive skins and small swimmers.
Active times can be had on land too – the forests around the place have plenty of hiking trails, including four that are themed to help visitors learn a bit more about what they see around them. Horse riding and an alpine adrenaline park are nearby, and you’re within an hour’s drive of more intrepid outings including underground cave kayaking at Mežica and rock climbing at Burjakove Peči (one of the country’s finest climbing areas). If you’re travelling with bikes, it’s worth noting that Green Resort is handily placed for the 366-kilometre Drava cycle route.
If you’re seeking something to sip on your terrace at sunset, make your way to Maribor, 45 minutes away – Slovenia’s top wine area has plenty of tours and tipples to try.
