Across the world, it’s widely accepted that green means go. Not so much here in the Drenthe region, where the gorgeous greenery is likely to encourage you stay a while.
And if you do (wisely) select to spend a stretch of time at Camping De Bronzen Emmer, you can fill many days happily pottering about in the surrounding countryside and visiting historic and family fun attractions. Hiking and horse riding are both nearby but the best approach is to do as the locals do and bring or hire bikes to take to the 1,400 kilometres of cycle paths that crisscross Drenthe’s heathland, dunes, marshes and forests.
The site itself has plenty to keep you busy too, including courts for tennis, volleyball and pétanque, and a warm indoor pool with a kids’ pool. In high season, there are also heaps of activities for the nippers to choose from; there’s plenty of space for them to run around, and there's a natural pond for splashing about.
The town of Aalden is a 10-minute cycle ride from the site if you’d like to venture out for restaurants and a supermarket, or you could choose to stay put and eat at the site’s own restaurant.
Useful features for parental folks around here include baby bathrooms and a good spread of playgrounds including one right next to the pitches, allowing playtime to continue while the grownups keep an eye on proceedings from afar (perhaps while lighting the barbie or relaxing with a well-earned cool drink).

Location
Local attractions
Start your local wanderings by taking the 10-minute walk up to the nearest village, Meppen, a cute little place that’s famed for its traditional thatched farmhouses and tall oak trees. Bike hire is also available if you’ve not brought your own.
With kids in tow, there are several great family-friendly days out nearby. 20 minutes’ drive away in Emmem is Wildlands Adventure Zoo, while fairytale fans should head to Kabouterland in Exloo, 25 minutes away, to spend the day searching the magic forest for trolls, gnomes and other fantastic folk. For more adrenaline-fuelled excitement, the huge Slagharen theme park is only about a half-hour drive from here, and has enough rides and shows to keep you all giddy for hours on end.
The popularity of this area isn’t some sort of recent fad – it’s been inhabited since the Bronze Age (hence the site’s name). If you’d like to learn a little about local history, head to the Hunebedcentrum archaeological museum, half an hour’s drive from the site.

Camping De Bronzen Emmer cancellation policy
Balance refunds: no penalties
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancellations and for your property/injury whilst away.
Please note that your deposit is paid to Pitchup.com and is non-refundable.
Payment
A 15% non-refundable deposit is payable now. Camping De Bronzen Emmer will debit the balance from your card 3 weeks before arrival, or if the arrival date is sooner than 3 weeks then the balance will be taken immediately.
You can also opt to pay the full amount at the time of your booking, or at any point before the due date.
Tax
Local city tax of €1.35 (£1.18) per person per night is not included and must be paid on arrival.
