Camping De Bronzen Emmer

Start your local wanderings by taking the 10-minute walk up to the nearest village, Meppen, a cute little place that’s famed for its traditional thatched farmhouses and tall oak trees. Bike hire is also available if you’ve not brought your own. With kids in tow, there are several great family-friendly days out nearby. 20 minutes’ drive away in Emmem is Wildlands Adventure Zoo, while fairytale fans should head to Kabouterland in Exloo, 25 minutes away, to spend the day searching the magic forest for trolls, gnomes and other fantastic folk. For more adrenaline-fuelled excitement, the huge Slagharen theme park is only about a half-hour drive from here, and has enough rides and shows to keep you all giddy for hours on end. The popularity of this area isn’t some sort of recent fad – it’s been inhabited since the Bronze Age (hence the site’s name). If you’d like to learn a little about local history, head to the Hunebedcentrum archaeological museum, half an hour’s drive from the site.
