  • Cool and peaceful camping spot in the Titiwangsa mountains
  • An hour's drive to Kuala Lumpur; 40 minutes to Genting Skyway
  • Wildlife-rich jungle location on the banks of a river
A cool, fresh spot in the jungle, where you can hang out by the river and surround yourselves with wildlife… and it’s all just an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur? This serene is Sailor’s Rest Campsite, 600 metres above sea level in the Titiwangsa mountains near Janda Baik. Easily accessible and catering for groups and families alike, this site makes a great place to relax for a couple of days, completely immersing yourselves in the sights, sounds and smells of the native jungle. You can use it as a base for mountain bike or hiking outings, or simply hang out quietly and soak up the atmosphere right there on site (or perhaps a bit of both…) The riverside setting of this place means that it’s got a truly chilled-out vibe and attracts lots of wildlife to look out for. It also means you’ll have somewhere handy to cool off after a day of activity. The river is shallow enough for paddling and gentle swims, and if you want to explore further you can sign up for tubing activities with nearby providers. The site has been set up to preserve the natural spirit of the surroundings, but with enough facilities and amenities to make sure you’ll be safe and comfortable. There are electric connections and lights all around the site, and you’ll have access to toilets, showers, wifi and a hot and cold water dispenser. Breakfast is available, and you’re welcome to bring along a barbecue to cook dinner on. There’s also a communal fireplace and an open-air cinema area that guests can use.

Route directions

On Waze, type 'SAILORREST RESORTS' (note: GPS sometimes directs guests to other locations, so ensure that you've pinned the right location). If using Google Maps, note that it often takes guests through a non-existent shortcut. Ensure that you proceed past ILMU straight on the main road – do not turn left at the junction near ILMU. Google Maps will re-route following the right path after passing ILMU.

Local attractions

You may well spend a fair amount of time on site, just splashing in the river and seeing what you can see. And if you’d like to see more? There are some great hiking and mountain bike trails nearby, taking you through forests to things like waterfalls and river crossings, so ask on site for good recommendations. There are ATV, canyoning and river tubing providers close by for added adventure. Or how about seeing it all from above? The Genting Skyway (40 minutes) is a cable car that takes you up above the rainforest canopy for an incredible view over the treetops. Alternatively, you could go for the opposite approach and visit the Batu Caves (50 minutes), where the huge cave temples and statues form an amazing spectacle. Some guests will have come up here to escape the urban environment, but if you’re not from the city then a trip to Kuala Lumpur should be on the cards – you can drive down there in an hour or so to see the Petronas Towers and Islamic Arts Museum, or stroll around in search of tasty eats.
