In the early months of 2026, Cortina d’Ampezzo (50 minutes’ drive) was on every sports enthusiast’s TV screen as one of the settings of the Winter Olympics. You can still catch the post-Games high at this elegant alpine resort by taking a picture in front of the Olympic rings, or booking a session at the Curling Centre. Deer, ibex and marmot are among the residents of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park (50 minutes), a vast and spectacular area of forests, alpine pastures and tall granite mountains, plus extensive underground cave systems. Being in the mountains gives you access to gorgeous glacial lakes with clear waters that invite you to take a dip. Head to Lago di Cadore (an hour) when that urge strikes.
