Coo, what views… Concept Village Piccola Gardiola is a spacious and scenic site right on the edge of Lake Garda (Italy's biggest, but of course you knew that), with spectacular vistas stretching down the Gulf of Manerba, the island of Isola dei Conigli and famed Garda landmark the Rock of Manerba: photographers, this is your spot. The best place to settle down at here is the site bar (but of course), which overlooks the lake so you can have watery views all the day long. You may be tempted to plant yourself on this handsome terrace for most of your hol, but do toddle off to explore too: although this is a peaceful corner of Lombardy, it's most handy for several tiptop places to see such as the Brescia town of San Felice del Benaco a kilometre and a half away, or superb Salò within 15 minutes' drive. Theme parks like Gardaland and Movieland are on the northern edge of the lake, about 45 minutes away. All pitches at Concept Village Piccola Gardiola have lake views, and all are a teeny amble from the waters and a beach for launching yourself or a small craft into the water. There's a playground on site too, and excellently-kept amenities including showers, toilets, a parent and baby washroom and disabled facilities. Wifi is available using prepaid cards from reception.

Local attractions

Get active, get out exploring or just laze around the lake and its spectacular vistas: Concept Village Piccola Gardiola is well placed for the lot. Local town San Felice del Benaco is reachable within a few minutes by car, on Lake Garda's western shore. It's also a serenely short drive from the site to lovely Manerba or Manerba del Garda, founded a couple of thousand years ago in honour of the Roman goddess Minerva, and now part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its prehistoric stilt house settlements. Take a boat trip from Manerba to get out onto the lake to explore its lushly scenic islands: much recommended. Also recommended in the region are trips to ancient Brescia, 45 minutes away, and bar crawls and nightclubbing in Desenzano del Garda (25 minutes). Visit the pretty hillside estate of Vittoriale degli italiani too, once home to writer Gabriele d'Annunzio – and where there's a poetically snarky message to Mussolini inscribed in one of the famed waiting rooms of the Prioria. Hailed as a must-see by the site team is the old town of Salò, about 15 minutes' drive to the north west. Its famed promenade is one you most certainly must stroll down – gelato in hand, natch…
