  • Farm camping 10 minutes’ drive from the spectacular Ligurian Riviera
  • Sanremo beaches 10 minutes’ drive, and Menton 50 minutes
  • Eco-friendly, solar-powered site with shady pitches and shared firepit
Nature lovers, hikers, watersports nuts, gardeners, adventurers, food lovers, couples, friends and families… all are made very welcome at Go Wild, a back-to-nature campsite set among shady trees on a steep hillside. Views are pretty spectacular from the terraced pitches, as they overlook the elegant coastal resort of Sanremo, and are 10 minutes’ drive from the beaches of the Ligurian Riviera. This somewhat rugged and off-grid campsite (you’ll need to be careful on your feet when pottering around the hillside pitches) is run on eco-friendly lines. All the water is recycled, so please only use natural washing products – and shower water is heated by solar power and rationed. The site owners also ask that there are no campfires near the tents due to fire risk; instead, cook over the communal firepit and make new pals with fellow campers as you chat over your day’s adventuring. In summer, you can book all manner of activities when you arrive on site; learn about the diverse planting that goes towards creating food forests, or have a go at pizza- and focaccia-making using zero-miles ingredients and produce grown on site. One word of warning: the road up to Go Wild is very steep and only suitable for only suitable for small- and medium-sized cars.

Local attractions

Turn north to the Valle Argentina for hiking and cycling adventures in untamed mountain country – you can borrow bikes on site, and if the climbs get to you, refresh with dips at River Argentina bathing spots in Montalto Ligure (35 minutes’ drive) or Badalucco (25 minutes). Expert hikers can go alpine trekking in the Parco Naturale Regionale delle Alpi Liguri (an hour), while there are easier way-marked routes for families along the paved Carmo delle Verme (an hour and five minutes). Heading south from the campsite, head for lively Sanremo beach clubs like Stabilimento Balneare Lido Imperatrice (20 minutes) for hobnobbing with stylish locals, or slip across the border to laze on the sand at Menton (50 minutes) in France. Get out on the waves windsurfing or kayaking from Spiaggia Tre Ponti (15 minutes), or combine viewing one of Europe’s most important Palaeolithic cave sites at Museo Preistorico dei Balzi Rossi (45 minutes) with superb snorkelling off Balzi Rossi’s public beach (50 minutes). And of course, who doesn’t love a pasta feast. Sample the local ‘osterie’ serving traditional Ligurian cuisine in neighbouring hill towns like Molini (40 minutes).
