  • Family-friendly site with private beach in the Cilento National Park
  • Organise scuba diving, bike tours and boat trips on site
  • Sea-view pool, restaurant, bar, spa and lots of kids' activities
A sandy beach on one side, the shaded trails of the Cilento National Park on the other, and a whole heap of amenities and activities on site – it’s likely that Baia del Silenzio is the kind of place to which one might happily relocate for a lengthy stretch of time, grazie mille (possibly forever, in fact…). This coastal Campania stunner is 10 minutes’ drive north of Palinuro, and an equally fab spot for folks seeking days packed with alfresco activities, and those seeking days packed with, well, not very much at all. For the busy bees, there’s a lengthy list of outings to pick from: kayaking, scuba diving, guided hikes, horse riding, rafting, farm visits and Roman ruins roaming can all be sorted on site, as can boat trips and beach dinners for those looking for something involving less energy. Those differing levels of activity coexist happily on site too: lounging types can spend their days meandering from beach to sea-view swimming pool to spa to long lunches at the restaurant to drinks at the bar, while more energetic souls get stuck into gym workouts, games of tennis, beach volleyball and basketball or watersports at the beach. A playground and a busy kids’ club schedule should ensure there’s plenty to keep even the most fidgety busy for many a day. Away from the fun and games, everyday essentials are taken care of too: a grocery store, free wifi and a launderette are among the amenities on site. In fact, you’ll barely have to leave the grounds if you don’t want to (now there’s a tempting thought…).

Local attractions

You’ll certainly want to see some of the Cilento National Park bordering the site – it’s the second largest nature reserve in the country, and its mix of sea caves, limestone karsts and woods of Aleppo pines, olive trees and chestnuts have led to it being designated a World Heritage Site. Bike trails and hiking routes run throughout the park, and there’s a chance to cool off at the Venus Hair Waterfall, 45 minutes away. There are plenty of spots for a swim along the coast too, of course, and sights to see along the way. The natural stone arch at Palinuro (20 minutes’ drive) and Infreschi Bay (an hour away) are a couple of local faves, and often feature on boat trips along the craggy coastline. Given the area’s extreme gorgeousness, it’s little surprise to hear that folks have been settling here for many an era. Historic attractions to visit nearby include the ancient Greek city of Velia (half an hour’s drive), the once-inhabited caves of Pertosa (an hour and 20 minutes) and the temples at Paestum (an hour and 15 minutes).
