  • Peaceful site on a large organic farm 10 minutes' drive from the coast
  • Home-grown produce on sale at the farm shop and in the restaurant
  • Pool, playground, bike hire, archery, games and farm walks
Pre-holiday diet? Forget about it. You’re likely to pile the pounds back on at Agriturismo La Petrosa anyway, so make your peace with your bod as it is. This pretty rural Campania site 15 minutes’ drive from Ceraso is part of a sizeable farm estate covering an area of around 50 hectares and filled with olive trees, orchards, wheat fields and veg gardens. Cheese, eggs and meat are also produced at the farm, and are on sale at the on-site shop along with a wide range of fresh fruit and veg, olive oil, jams, fresh bread and other products. If you’d prefer to leave those ingredients in the hands of the experts, head over to the restaurant for a range of tempting traditional dishes, created with produce from the farm and served up with gorgeous views from the open terrace. Best way to deal with any calorie count concerns? Head out for a walk around the park and along the Palistro river which runs through the site; well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you as you wander. Alternatively, you may like to play games of pétanque or table tennis, try out your aim with an archery session or hire bikes to pedal along local paths. After all that, a swimming pool is on hand for refreshing dips and relaxing on the sun terrace (ideally with a drink in hand from the kiosk bar). The site’s also got a small playground with swings and a slide to keep the bambini busy.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Location is in the National Park of Cilento and the surroundings are beautiful. Remote and quiet - not for anyone looking for a busy, buzzy campsite with nightlife nearby. The pool area is very relaxing and when we were there, not at all busy. For most of the time we had the pool all to ourselves. There is a shop on site that sells basic food stuffs locally produced - but not a proper shop so you need to stock up before you get here. Site services were really good - hot showers, modern loos etc. There is also a restaurant on site. This is an agri-tourism site - basically a farm with 6 or 8 sites for touring campers. They also offer bed breakfast and evening meal in the apartments on site.

Disliked: Not much. The menu is a tad confusing in the restaurant as there isn't any detail on it but apart from that all good.

Liked: This campsite is a gem. A beautiful setting next to the river. The shop selling organic produce was wonderful and we ate freshly made goat’s cheese for lunch. All facilities were clean and well maintained. We opted for delicious breakfast and all our hosts greeted us warmly. Every journey to this great place is thoroughly scenic. Thank you!!

Disliked: Nothing

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch

Liked: Great place. I highly recommend it. Why? - Human-sized camping -> a few nice pitches. - Super comfortable and clean. - Very nice pitch area (in the shade, under big trees, with clean floor). - Local products (olive oil, honey, marmalade, cheese...). - Super pool next to pitch area. - Restaurant on a nice terrace above the compound. Cherry on the cake: Angelo is tending all your needs. The whole team is very welcoming (we reached the place very late at night and they were nice enough to keep the gate open for us). We had a super great time at La Petrosa. Thanks to the entire team. Jean-Marie, Amélie, Fantin, Milo and Sophie

Local attractions

Need to work up more of an appetite or justify a dessert at dinner? The Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park (Italy’s second-largest park) is a few minutes away by car, and stacked with scenic trails to hike or bike along. For less strenuous strolls, head to the Elea-Velia archaeological park (10 minutes’ drive): some of the buildings here are in remarkably good nick considering they’ve been standing since Roman times. If that’s not sated your appetite for historical wanderings, head north to Paestum (45 minutes) and the mighty Temple of Athena. Cool off after all such endeavours with a swim in the sea at Marina di Casalvelino (10 minutes) or Ascea beach (15 minutes). Make it more of a day out by boarding a boat trip from Marina di Casalvelino, learning more about the waves at the Musea Living Museum of the Sea (20 minutes) or taking a little boat ride around the gorgeous Capo Palinuro sea caves (45 minutes). Scuba divers can get in the water here to explore the caverns that lurk beneath the surface.
