General

  • In Abruzzo National Park and regularly visited by deer
  • 15km from Pescasseroli and 2km from the local lake
  • Hikers' paradise

Cor, look at that mountainy view. Campeggio Natura Le Quite is in the southern Italy of Province of L'Aquila, the most mountainous and least populated of  the Abruzzo region: if you want mountain hikes, this is the Italian countryside region that has them.

But we have more. The site is also in the splendidly scenic and wildlife-filled Abruzzo National Park, the biggest national park in the Apennine Mountains and a protected nature area since 1992. It’s surrounded by hills, woodland and fields, is a top local spot for hiking and foraging, and is regularly visited by wild animals including deer.

Campeggio Natura Le Quite has basic but clean facilities including a toilet block with hot showers (a small charge applies) and a washing-up area. Bring a torch as there’s no lighting at night – just the ticket for Italian stargazing and a long sleep...

Provisions can be sorted at the local village a short walk away, where explorers will find a mini market, a few small bars and a café.

Please note

A charge of €1.00 (£0.85) applies for the use of shower.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

we where lucky only ones on site. the owner was very attentive to our needs (and it was end of season not expected). Deer grazing meters from caravan bear seen around toilet area previous week but owner assured us they keep their distance and are monitored by rangers which we witnessed. Very short walk to small town with bars and restaurants. PS. a visit to the cantina is worth a trip.

    Disliked:

(We have a double axle caravan) the site entrance was very steep. Poorly signposted to campsite. We went up and down a few mountains just because we missed one important signpost, (or lack of signpost). NO INTERNET RECEPTION on site had a dongle and had drive out to contact relatives or to get internet.

We loved it because of the space, open fires and the scenery. River Sangro runs passed the bottom of the site and deer are grazing around the tents some mornings.
Local produce available from village store 5 mins walk and restaurants v near.Pescasseroli only 20 min drive is the local lively spot and we visited 3 times for cafes, coffees, crepes, cakes and culture.

    Disliked:

Bit disappointed with facilities. Little hot water for showers, none when busy. One dilapidated fridge freezer for ice blocks and still quite pricey.

Local attractions

Hiking, hiking and more hiking… Campeggio Natura Le Quite's location in the Abruzzo National Park is hiking heaven, so take off for the day to see where your feets take you.

Other highly good hikes are through the mountain pass of Passo Godi, its starting point Scanno, known as the city of photographers, and around the local lake shores; the closest is only a couple of kilometres from the campsite.

A short drive away are the Sagittario gorges, reached via the SR479 pass, and the town of the Pescasseroli, doubling up as the headquarters of the national park.

For other activities, canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing and mountain biking are all possible in the area; horse riding is also available nearby.
