Camping Le Lanfonnet: Aerial view

General

  • Peaceful family site on Lake Annecy, surrounded by mountains
  • Windsurfing, paragliding, hang gliding and canyoning all nearby
  • Direct access to a public beach with waterski, kayak and pedalo rental

Ooh la la, the lakeside setting of Camping Le Lanfonnet is most magnifique. And this is not just any old lake – non, Lake Annecy is a veritable gem. The third largest in France, its clear waters are fed in by mountain streams to make up one of Europe’s cleanest lakes.

Clearly, one must allow plenty of time for watery and waterside hours and hours, but there’s loads more to fill your days around here. A beach is a couple of minutes’ amble away from the site and two more lie within a 20-minute walk, for sunbathing days, canoeing, paddleboarding, scuba diving and heaps more.

The site is well set up for activities too, with table tennis, table football, pétanque and a playground, as well as a TV room to retreat to for indoor times, and a bar-restaurant to fully investigate for local grub.

Pick up essentials at the site grocery store in summer; at other times and for more shops, take a 20-minute stroll along the lakeside path to reach local village Talloires. A miniature golf course and tennis courts are up here too, and it’s the starting point for some great hiking and bike trails up into the hills. Restaurants and cafés are in the village and all along the lake shore for essential coffee and croissant pitstops or for a glass of vin with a view.

Please note

The restaurant is open between 01/06 and 26/09.

The grocery shop is open between 01/07 and 31/08.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Absolutely nothing, even the view was blocked by trees.

    Disliked:

Everything, the toilets we akin to something from alcatraz.

Owner could not care less about anything, the whole site is overgrown and full of depressing old caravans that clearly have been abandoned.

The showers - easily the worst experience I've had in my life, incredibly old, small, dirty and the drains blocked with hair.

The pricing is way higher than others, for no apparent reason - if anything I would expect to be paid to step foot on this site!

Avoid this dump at all costs!

Location very near the lake. Lovely pitch with some shade. Facilities are dated but clean and actually really liked the character - pulling chain for shower was new one but as as long as you pulled there was hot water. And it was available on Pitchup.com on busy Saturday.
Lovely bar just outside with fabulous views of the lake.

    Disliked:

Not problem but it is next to public beach which was very busy on the weekend with no security.

Great location close to Lake Annecy. We were escorted to the pitch and given an option of where we wanted to stay. We were told about the local area and the best places to go like beaches and restaurants.

    Disliked:

The campsite took and withheld my driving license even though I had fully paid. Then they took ages to find it at the end of my stay. Dated toilets and facilities. Cold showers.

How close it was to the beach. How wonderful and helpful the staff are. The beach is grass and free. Most beaches in Annecy you have to pay for because of the boats in the lake. There was hot water for showers and electricity. Bring a french plug and an extension lead. The bread is fresh baked and pizzas are great.

    Disliked:

Nothing fancy here, but its clean. Electrics go out during a storm but they try their best to fix it. This place has heart.

Local attractions

Several hiking and cycling trails around the lake start from Talloires village – a popular route from here is the hour-long walk up to the Cascade d’Angon waterfall. To get to other walks in the area, such as those in the Bout du Lac natural reserve, take the car (20 minutes to the nature reserve) or pick up the bus or boat services running all around the lake.

On the hillside above the village is the medieval Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, where you can take a guided tour of some of its 100 rooms; pick from a traditional guided tour or one run by costumed actors to help fire up the kids’ imaginations. It’ll take you 15 minutes or so to drive up there or just over an hour to hike up.

Watersports galore make the most of the gorgeous lake waters – just next to the site are waterskiing, wakeboarding and windsurfing lessons and canoes and sailing boats for hire, and up in Talloires are a paddleboarding school and a scuba diving centre. If you’d like to combine your watery pursuits and mountain exploration, sign up for a canyoning trip from the adventure sports centre a couple of minutes’ walk from the site.

Adrenaline junkies with an eye for a great view can fly over the lake on a paragliding flight from just outside Talloires; meanwhile, those of a gentler persuasion might prefer a round of golf at Lake Annecy Golf Course, 10 minutes away.

The handsome old town of Annecy is half an hour's drive away.
