  • Family-friendly site in a village in the Drôme des Collines
  • A 10-minute drive from Facteur Cheval’s Ideal Palace
  • Bar-restaurant, outdoor pool and lots of summer activities
Bring the kids, bring the grandparents, bring the dogs – Camping le Grand Cerf, in the Drôme des Collines village of Le Grand-Serre, prides itself on being a place that caters for all the family. It's also in a handy position, half an hour's drive away from the Rhône Valley and the Ardèche department. Throughout the summer, this friendly site is alive with all sorts of activities: by day it’s all crafts and games for the kids and aqua gym classes or various sporting endeavours for the grownups, and of an evening everyone gathers for themed meals, live music, karaoke and the like. But it’s not all about the organised antics, not at all – there’s plenty to keep you busy at other times too: among the modern and well-maintained facilities are a heated pool, paddling pool, multisports pitch, tennis court, pétanque court, table tennis, beach volleyball court, giant trampoline, playground and a mini farm with a flock of friendly animals. And in great news for the penny-conscious, all the equipment is free to use, including racquets and balls. As for that great holiday pastime of eating, there’s a bar, ice cream parlour, restaurant and pizzeria, all serving up homemade food. For DIY types, small shops are a few minutes’ walk away in the village and a supermarket is 10 minutes’ drive away.

This is a well-maintained, clean, and quiet campsite. Guests praised the friendly and helpful staff, the immaculate sanitation blocks, and the good food served in the restaurant, including a popular BBQ. The swimming pool is a sun trap and warm. Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked Lovely quiet site in general.
Patricia in the restaurant was very friendly & helpful.
all staff tried to speak english, which was handy as my french is next to nothing.
we had a slight issue with kids playing football but it was dealt with quickly and with no fuss
very rural, restaurant had good food and very welcoming.
toilets were always clean
says it has fast wifi????? it was very slow

Disliked basketball courts in the middle of the site, kids kicking balls over the fence, hitting caravans, i had to go over at 10.15 pm and tell them to keep the noise down, reported to staff the next day and they made sure the kids were off the court by 10pm

Local attractions

For folk who like a somewhat unusual attraction, Facteur Cheval’s Ideal Palace (10 minutes away by car) has to be on a list of local visits. Built singlehandedly by a rural postman over the course of 33 years from 1879, it’s a fab place for a wander, keeping eyes peeled for fairies, elephants and other beings that lurk within the design. Animal antics await visitors to Les Chèvres qui Dansent goat farm, 20 minutes’ walk from the site, with wilder ones to see as you drive through Safari de Peaugres, 45 minutes away by car. Meanwhile, any budding pirates you’ve brought along can join in all sorts of swashbuckling fun at Miripili, l’île aux Pirates theme park, half an hour away. If you’d like a more grown-up day out, take your tastebuds on a tour to the Jean Gauthier alambic distillery, the Valrhona Cité du Chocolat and the wineries around Valence. All are within a 45-minute drive.
