Time to disconnect… perhaps taking time to listen to the birds singing, watch the horses trot about in the neighbouring field, or prep a tasty lunch made with home-grown veg? Camping Les Vernades, a couple of kilometres from Rosières in the southern Ardèche, is just the place for all of this. Set on a former wine-growing and agricultural estate, this place is a real haven of peace and quiet for guests who’d like to immerse themselves in a rural location. It’s at the end of a quiet little road (so no passing traffic noise), and on the banks of the Baume river (for pretty views and hours of fishing or wildlife watching). There are paths and trails all around the site to help you get out to explore your surroundings, and plenty of other outdoor activities to try out while you’re here (including canoeing, canyoning, horse riding and mountain biking). Dogs who like a rural ramble are welcome here too, and there’s a green space on site reserved on site for them to have a good run about (it’s even got river access so they can cool their paws). Getting your day off to a good start should be easy here, as the site has deliveries of pastries and warm bread each morning. Fresh sun-ripened tomatoes grown on site are available to give you a taste of the area’s produce, and you can pick up other food supplies at the shops and supermarkets in Rosières. Pitches here have plenty of shade from trees, and access to facilities including a playground, a barbecue area and a wifi service.

Disliked We really couldn't understand why this place had such amazing reviews on Pitchup. It's ok, maybe for one night. There are broken and dumped caravans littering the site. It's not in the Ardeche as you might expect. Sure, it's in the Ardeche department but not in the mountains or the gorges. The access to the river is unappealing. Why are there electric cattle fences everywhere? It's the sort of place you'd be really disappointed to arrive at. And, we were disappointed. We'd (stupidly) booked and paid for 2 nights but left after one. I'm sure that the charming owner means well...but I was scraping around trying to find 32 centimes in cash to fulfill our booking and she said "demain"....not "forget it" for 32 centimes? That's like 1p. Honestly, ignore those pumped up reviews. In September this was poor.

Je suis désolée que mon camping n’ait pas correspondu à vos attentes. Quelques précisions nous semblent toutefois nécessaires.
La caravane cassée que vous avez vue doit être prochainement récupérée par son propriétaire. Les autres caravanes présentes sont en gardiennage : elles sont regroupées contre la digue en saison, puis mises en hauteur après la saison afin d’être protégées en cas d’inondation.
Concernant la rivière, la forte canicule et la sécheresse qui ont touché l’Ardèche cet été ont malheureusement fait chuter considérablement son niveau.
Quant à la clôture électrique, elle n'est pas destinée au bétail : elles permettent d’accueillir hors saison nos deux chevaux, très appréciés de nombreux campeurs, qui étaient simplement partis en randonnée lors de votre séjour.
Enfin, pour les 32 centimes de taxe de séjour, je vous avais justement proposé de les laisser tomber. Je suis donc surprise que ce geste soit présenté comme un point négatif.
Je respecte bien sûr votre ressenti, même si je regrette que vous n’ayez pas apprécié la tranquillité, la nature et l’environnement qui font le charme de mon camping pour beaucoup de mes visiteurs.

I'm sorry that my campsite didn't meet your expectations. However, we feel a few clarifications are necessary.
The damaged caravan you saw should be collected by its owner soon. The other caravans are in storage: they are grouped together against the dike during the season, then moved to higher ground after the season to protect them in case of flooding.
Regarding the river, the severe heatwave and drought that affected the Ardèche region this summer have unfortunately caused its water level to drop considerably.
As for the electric fence, it's not for livestock: it's used to accommodate our two horses, which are very popular with many campers, and were simply out riding during your stay.

Finally, regarding the 32-cent tourist tax, I specifically suggested waiving it. I'm therefore surprised that this gesture is being presented as a negative point.

I certainly respect your feelings, although I regret that you did not appreciate the peace and quiet, the natural surroundings, and the environment that make my campsite so charming for so many of my guests.

Liked Camping super chouette et très tranquille.
Le mobile home petit mais agréable et bien équipé on doit apporter ces draps et faire le ménage en partant.
L emplacement tente très spacieux.
La chienne c est régalée plein de place et la rivière à côté plein de bains et de jeux.
Le chemin de promenade longeant la rivière est agréable.
La propriétaire est génial et très gentille.
Les sanitaires sont fonctionnels et propre.
On a fait des connaissances via la chienne et de la voisine Belge conviviale.
A conseiller vivement.

Local attractions

This is a nifty location for all sorts of outdoor activities – perhaps heading out onto the scenic trails running from Rosières, canoeing along the Chassezac or Ardèche rivers or cycling along the Via Ardèche. A couple of local stables offer horse riding along (and sometimes through) the river, and activity providers can take you further into the Monts d’Ardèche Regional Natural Park for climbing or canyoning adventures. The Bois de Païolive is a popular place for a walk, especially as it stays relatively cool on summer days, and you can get up into the treetops on the trails at Entertainment Adventure Camp. Both are 25 minutes’ drive away. A huge highlight of this area is Vallon Pont d’Arc (half an hour), where you can hire canoes to paddle down the river through the Gorges de l’Ardèche to see the huge Pont d’Arc stone arch. Stop by at Grotte chauvet 2 - Ardèche (35 minutes) while you’re here, to see a replica of the UNESCO-listed caves with their ancient wall paintings.
