  • In the Durance Valley close to the Serre-Ponçon lake
  • Pool, play area and summer entertainment
  • Snack bar and grocery shop
What a splendid setting: the Durance Valley campsite of Camping Le Petit Liou is only a short distance from Lake Serre-Ponçon, sitting underneath the mountains of the Hautes-Alpes and one of the biggest artificial lakes in Europe. As you might reckon, this is also an area of outdoor activities like canoeing, hiking, cycling and mountain biking, all available from the campsite and into the surrounding green of the French countryside. The campsite has a pool to splash around in as well as a play area and ping pong tables: if you prefer something more organised, activities for kids are arranged by the friendly team in summer alongside events like outdoor cinema nights, concerts and stargazing sessions for the grownups. Camping Le Petit Liou also has a snack bar with takeaway service and a grocery shop. Its amenities blocks include free hot showers and a launderette.

Local attractions

Clamber up to the abbey of Boscodon 1,150 metres above sea level for one of the most must-sees of the region, built in the twelfth century by an order of monks and still inhabited by a religious community today. Bring a camera and get prepped to spend some time; the views here are heavenly. Also a must-see in the area for spectacular views and scenic wanders around its open grassy areas is the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the place forte of Mont-Dauphin, part of the Fortifications of Vauban group and the smallest commune in the Haute-Alpes department. Handsome Embrun Cathedral, a national monument of France, is in the nearby commune of Embrun, a town that along with Baratier holds a marché aux saveur, the traditional local market organised by farmers and artisans.
