Outdoor pool

General

  • In a 700-hectare forest 10 minutes' drive from Vence and 40 from Nice
  • Forest trails and bike paths starting directly from the grounds
  • Pools, terrace bar, hairdressing service and 10 pétanque courts

Take your pick from woodland or sea, waterpark or old village in and around Domaine de la Bergerie in the Alpes-Maritimes, a quiet site in the middle of a huge 700-hectare forest. Although the vibe is peaceful here, it's 40 minutes' drive to the French Riviera cities of Antibes and Nice, and just under an hour from Cannes.

The old towns of St Paul de Vence and Vence are within a few kilometres too and the theme, water and marine park complex of Marineland, Aquasplash and Antibesland is within 30 minutes' drive. As the site is in the middle of a forest, plenty of forest walks, mountain biking trails and cycling routes start right from the grounds.

Many swish facilities await on site, including the park's own hairdressing service so you can sort out your barnet (most handy if you're going to pose around Cannes for a day); an outdoor fitness area to keep everything else looking tiptop. There's a a full set of 10 pétanque courts – because you can't be on a French site without giving this a go.

Also around to keep you occupied are two fine pools, surrounded by greenery and with mountain views; a tennis court if you're feeling energetic, and a terrace bar and takeaway for leisurely afternoons and evenings.

A shop is open from May to September to sell freshly baked bread, local produce, souvenirs, groceries and other essentials. Picnic tables are on site for alfresco eats.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/05 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Tired, unloved and in need of modernisation 30/06/2019

    Shady pitches available

    Disliked:

Very unloved upper section (for tents only). Shower blocks were very old and in need of modernisation. Tent pitches in the forest were over grown and as a result had a lot of insects and spiders roaming around (far more than normal).

From the manager...

Thank you for your opinion,
but we could not understand, that you have not complained at the campsite? You have reserved a pitch without electricity, not a pitch for tents only, and we do not hide thet it is in a forest, and we have chosen: Nature and Quietness. How can you judge far more than normal for insects and spiders in the Nature? In spring, specially this year very wet in May and hot in June they breed very well. Should we use insecticides and dust to protect the biodiversity? Bees need all flowers...

This pitch was a very generous size, and we loved the way this campsite was situated in the forests. It was tidy, and the staff were very helpful. The pools were clean, but could have been a little larger. Electricity hookup was convenient, and there was water on our pitch.

The food from the restaurant was excellent and we have taken note of this campsite for future use.

    Disliked:

The water taps on pitches did not have the traditional screw attachments like other campsites, so we were unable to hook our motorhome up them, but were still conveniently located for general use.

    Showers. Pool.

    Disliked:

Pitches smaller than asked for. Very uneven in places. Electrics kept tripping and so food kept going off. Had to wait for them to come and reset the electrics.

From the manager...

Dear Family Warman thank you for your advice and to have chosen our campsite..
Tha places were minimum 90 m², and were suitable with your material.
We never say they were bigger when you have reserved, and the law asked only for 80m².
For electricity the problem comes from stormy weather and if you plug more than you can as the maximum is 10A.
Due to security reason we do not work with electricity during storm, and we can only come to give electricity again when we know the problem.
Best regards

Local attractions

The site's setting amid a vast forest means hiking, ambling, mountain biking and cycling are all available from the grounds.

You could also make your way to the local commune of St Paul de Vence five kilometres away, a medieval village atop the Plateau du Puy, with views over the surrounding hills and gardens, or to the historic town of Vence, on a rocky ledge four and a half kilometres away and with museums, galleries and easy access to spectacular walking and horse riding trails.

By car, the famed Riviera town of Cannes, best known for its film festival and its celebrity vibe, is within an hour's drive. The town's also home to a fine length of white sandy beach, eucalyptus groves, gourmet restaurants and food shops, and is the departure point (on the western side of the harbour) for boat trips to the nearby Lérins Islands isle of Sainte-Marguerite.

Other excellent options in the area are Antibes, the port town with 16th-century ramparts, museums, cathedral, botanical gardens and narrow cobblestone streets, and Nice, the Alpes-Maritime capital at the foot of the Alps (both 40 minutes). For active adventures, go kayaking on the waters of the Loup river from La Colle-sur-Loup, 15 minutes away.
