  • Family-friendly Provence site overlooking Lac de Serre-Ponçon
  • La Bréole a five-minute drive; Animal Park Serre-Ponçon 25 minutes
  • Restaurant, outdoor pools, playground and miniature golf on site
In a remote corner of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in south-eastern France, at an altitude of 1,000 metres, peaceful Camping La Pierre de L’Aigle is the place for a holiday that combines splendid scenery, mountain hikes and watersports. This family- and dog-friendly site is a five-minute drive from La Bréole, a village on the banks of Lac de Serre-Ponçon, and it goes without saying that water-based activities – from kayaking to waterskiing – are pretty popular around these parts. You can rent any necessary equipment from the Base Nautique Port Saint Pierre watersports centre (30 minutes). If you prefer something more sedate, there are pedal boats, or you can just relax on the lifeguarded beach. When you get back to base, if you haven’t had your fill of watery capers, you can have a swim in one of the two heated outdoor pools on site. There's also a play area with table football and table tennis, plus a miniature golf course in the woods, so you shouldn't have to worry about the kids getting bored here. The on-site restaurant serves breakfast, plus homemade pizzas, salads and pancakes, which you can enjoy on the shaded terrace poolside.

Local attractions

The falconry demonstrations at Animal Park Serre-Ponçon (25 minutes’ drive) take place at a large seated arena overlooking the lake. Take in spectacular views while watching eagles, hawks and other birds of prey soar over the water before returning to the gloved hand of their keeper. You can also meet and feed other residents, including marmots and foxes. In the mood for a challenging hike with a bit of climbing? The Mont Colombis area (35 minutes) might just be the place for you. If you want the views without the effort, the observation deck at La Salle de bal des Demoiselles Coiffées de Théus, overlooking a series of unusual rock formations, can be reached by car in 25 minutes. Paddling in the lake not exciting enough for the kids? You could take them to Aquaparc Embrun (50 minutes), an inflatable playground where they can climb, bounce and slide to their hearts’ content. There is also a supervised beach, plus miniature golf and trampolines.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: Very quiet we were the only people on site Fantastic views Great shower pressure

Disliked: Disabled shower and toilet not very clean screws missing from handles (just as well we are not handicapped ) and shower attachment. All other amenities were closed i.e. bar, pool etc. Dog poop on parking spot This place could be so special but the caretakers (maybe owners) have maybe lost interest?

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: Private pitch with borders. Swimming pool. Relaxed atnosphere.

Disliked: Smell of dog poo on pitch - we were only there for one night so I didn't mention anything. I thought maybe the previous person had a dog that maybe hadn't cleaned it up properly. It was an issue for us because of the smell but also my 4 year old playing on the grass and he got some on his hands. However, we ate in the restaurant at night and I realised that the owner's dog was wondering around a lot (yes - in the restaurant). So I thought it may probably be that dog which was responsible for the poo on our pitch? I don't mind dogs but I don't agree with them roaming around a food place and coming up to people when they are eating. i also don't think they should be able to poo on the pitches.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: We arrived and had a warm welcome and given a choice of several pitches to select from. Nb rock pegs needed and a long electric cable. English spoken is basic but more than enough to get by. The shower and toilet facilities were fine, cleaned daily and never busy. The salt swimming pool was refreshing with plenty of loungers and the bar/restaurant opened for lunch 12-2 and then again 6-whenever. Pizza was delicious! The local area is amazing. Visit the tourist information asap to find the lovely swimming spots and local events on. Mont Columbis is a must visit too! A drive around the lake is a lovely way to see see the sights.

Disliked: One night a group of young people were placed amongst the family campers...it was a looonnnng night but asked to leave the next morning. The temperature of the showers fluctuated, caution with young children.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: Really lovely peaceful site. The pitches were really spacious, we could choose where we pitched. The views from the site were amazing of the mountains. The facilities were great, everything you needed. The pool was lovely, it felt like we had a private campsite as it was so quiet. Great location for walks. The lake is quite far away to walk down to.
