  • Family-friendly site with a pool in stunning southern Alps surrounds
  • A 10-minute drive from Sisteron and Plan d'eau des Marres lake
  • Terrace snack bar, waterslides, pony trekking, shop and playground
There’s much to do at family-friendly Camping Le Jas Du Moine, on site as well as in the swish Alpes de Haute Provence surrounds: just some of the facilities to flit between – without setting a single foot off base – include a pool, waterpark, archery, pony trekking and volleyball... So that should keep you busy for a couple of days at least, but what if your hol’s a week or longer? Plenty more entertainment’s around as well, from a playground and games room for the kids to a pétanque court where you can practise skills ready to flex at one of the weekly competitions. Other organised events at this activity-packed park include themed parties every Friday, ping pong tournaments, salsa dancing and match showings on the big screen at the bar. And then there’s the food and drink... munch on bread and breakfast pastries from the bakery area, splash out on essentials at the small shop or sip on locally made vin out in the open air at the snack bar terrace (which is open all day long in high season). Went a touch over the top shopping at one of the Provencal markets? Keep cheeses chilled by renting a fridge from the site (and make sure to pick up other delicacies like Haute Provence olive oil and lavender honey to whisk home with you). Set under a 10-minute drive from Sisteron and on the outskirts of La Rochette, this place is prime for all sorts of off-site activities too, like rafting, canyoning and canoeing on the Durance river. With the landscape being so very lovely, chances to get up high in the sky – think paragliding, climbing, zipwiring and parachuting – are also possible (as well as highly recommended).

Local attractions

Set as it is in France’s southern Alps with top views all around, roams really are rewarding from this park. Pick from one of the many trails, perhaps including one or two of the 350 kilometres’ worth of cycle networks ripe for the picking in the region... or stroll along one of paths passing by lavender fields and olive groves... or simply wander around historic villages. Sisteron under a 10-minute drive away is one such place where the past comes to life: it's famed for the citadel that towers over the town, its medieval ramparts and the 12th-century former Sisteron Cathedral; three museums are in town too if you'd like to delve into local history. And if you'd like to delve into local cuisine? Sisteron lamb (aka César lamb) is so famed it's said to be among the best on the planet: gauge for yourself whether this is true at one of the local restaurants. And then? Once your food’s settled, finish off your day with a swim in Sisteron’s Plan d'eau des Marres lake or at one of the river beaches near the site.
