Camping La Petite Houmée

Hikers listen up, because five walking trails begin in pretty Curzay-sur-Vonne (five minutes’ drive). The village also hosts the enchanting Musée du Vitrail, where you can see jewel-coloured stained glass in anything from medieval to contemporary styles; if this sparks your creativity, book glass-making courses at the neighbouring Atelier du Vitrail workshop. When teenagers are travelling with you, Futuroscope (45 minutes) will probably top your list of potential trips; expect to spend a day working your way around its fast-paced musical shows and spectacular 4D immersive adventures. Closer to home base, younger kids will be just as appreciative of the chance to cuddle donkeys and llamas at La Belle Anée in Jazeneuil (10 minutes). Mash up a bit of culture with more family days out by heading to the Gallo-Roman site at Sanxay (also 10 minutes) to see the baths and remains of the amphitheatre. If you’re visiting in summer, look out for the open-air concerts that are frequently held at the site.
