  • Family-friendly site in the scenic Poitou-Charentes region
  • On-site relaxation area with hot tub, sauna, aromatherapy and library
  • Cognac country: 15 minutes’ drive from top distilleries
Worried about winding up with a boring holiday? That won’t be a problem at Les Pilotis du Cognac, a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the village of Bourg-Charente in Poitou-Charentes – there’s piles to do (it’s funny in French…). Explore the Charentes region from Les Pilotis: take to the country roads and banks of the Charente river on foot or by bike, or get out on the water to see it all by canoe. If that sounds too active, pull up a piece of riverbank and cast out a line to see, or head to the nearby golf course (less than five minutes’ drive) to play a round. Back on site, you can get nice and relaxed: have a leisurely game of ping pong or rack up the points in pétanque before taking a dip in the heated on-site pool (open during the high season). You can also reserve the private relaxation area on for its hot tub, sauna and aromatherapy, and its library full of books and magazines... Once you start to feel that familiar gnawing in your stomach, grab some supplies in one of the supermarkets in Cognac or Jarnac (both around 10 minutes away) and either cook them in your private kitchen or fire up the barbecue. If you’d prefer to have someone else look after the meal plan, there are plenty of restaurants within 15 minutes of Les Pilotis to try.

What customers say

This small, well-maintained site boasts exceptional hosts, Franck and Martine, who are consistently praised for their friendliness and helpfulness. Guests highlight the lovely, clean swimming pool and excellent Wi-Fi. While the beautiful, peaceful location surrounded by vineyards is a major draw, some reviews mention the pitches, particularly the hard standing ones, are uneven and require attention. Despite this, many guests express a strong desire to return.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The pool was nice and Frank, the owner was friendly and helpful. Chalets looked nice

Disliked Booked for 3 nights but only stayed the 1 night due to the pitches were like a bomb site and very small, full of uneven rubble, so bad that my dog refused to lay down anywhere.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Pool,10/10; empty every time we went for a swim. Site Security 10/10 with secure auto gate. Cleanliness 10/10. Wi-Fi 10/10. Dog friendly . Fresh baguettes/ pastries each morning if you order the night before. No pesky flies or mosquitoes.
Hosts, Franck & Martine are delightful and helped us to arrange a free of charge Cognac Distillery tour around 15 minutes drive from the site and it was very enjoyable. The site was very small but the pitch was bigger than average which suited our Basecamp 2 caravan perfectly. The location is amazing; surrounded by vineyards. We saw some deer on our morning dog walk. You should book this site!

Disliked Nothing.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely site with with excellent hosts, Franck and Martine, who couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. The touring pitches were tucked to one side and with a rubble surface but surprisingly level! The site has a pool, sauna and other facilities for camper’s use. All clean and well kept. Bread ordered the day before is delivered to you pitch in the morning by Franck. Only stayed one night but would happily have stayed more

Disliked Effectively only one shower and one accessible shower for touring pitches. That said not a problem to us early risers!

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Both Frank and Martine were very welcoming hosts and were very attentive.

I was not aware that it was such a small site and the hard standing pitches need attention with proper stones not the hard core covering at present. This type of filling created a very uneven surface and anyone with mobility issues would find the uneven surfaces challenging.

There are lots of positives about this little site but I think the picture of the grass pitches is very misleading. Also it was very difficult to exit the site with our car and caravan, as we had to unhitch and manoeuvre the van out onto the road with the motor mover otherwise we would not have been able to get out!!

Disliked Pitch surface and very inaccessible exit with a car and caravan

From the manager: Nous mettons tout nos effort pour accueillir au mieux nos clients , aucun pour problème pour entrer ou sortir de gros véhicule .
J'étais là à votre arrivée et tout c'est bien passé , un peu facile de critiquer à la sortie .
Bonne route .

Local attractions

This is cognac country. Start with tours and tastings at Courvoisier, about five minutes’ drive from Les Pilotis du Cognac, then head in to Cognac for the same at Camus, Remy Martin, Martell, Hennessy and Cognac Meukow. While in Cognac, stick around for more than the brandy – there are plenty of museums, and the Château Royal de Cognac, Jardin Public and La Maison de la Lieutenance are must-sees, plus the scenic medieval streets are super strollable. Once you step away from the cognac of it all, there’s still plenty to do in the area around Les Pilotis. Montendre (around 50 minutes away) is a worthy visit, with its old buildings, château and lake where you can hire pedalos and canoes or laze on the beach – to see everything, make sure to call in to the tourist office for a guided tour. Stick with history with stops at the Roman ruins at Saintes, the châteaux de Dampierre-sur-Boutonne and de la Roche Courbon, and the stunningly scenic village (and UNESCO World Heritage Site) of Saint-Jean-d’Angély, or stick with the scenic at Pons and Jonzac. Kids chafing at the bit? Try a trip to the coast (roughly an hour away) or stick closer to home at Les Antilles de Jonzac waterpark.
