Worried about winding up with a boring holiday? That won’t be a problem at Les Pilotis du Cognac, a family-friendly site less than five minutes’ drive from the village of Bourg-Charente in Poitou-Charentes – there’s piles to do (it’s funny in French…). Explore the Charentes region from Les Pilotis: take to the country roads and banks of the Charente river on foot or by bike, or get out on the water to see it all by canoe. If that sounds too active, pull up a piece of riverbank and cast out a line to see, or head to the nearby golf course (less than five minutes’ drive) to play a round. Back on site, you can get nice and relaxed: have a leisurely game of ping pong or rack up the points in pétanque before taking a dip in the heated on-site pool (open during the high season). You can also reserve the private relaxation area on for its hot tub, sauna and aromatherapy, and its library full of books and magazines... Once you start to feel that familiar gnawing in your stomach, grab some supplies in one of the supermarkets in Cognac or Jarnac (both around 10 minutes away) and either cook them in your private kitchen or fire up the barbecue. If you’d prefer to have someone else look after the meal plan, there are plenty of restaurants within 15 minutes of Les Pilotis to try.

喜欢 This campsite exceeded all expectations. The hosts, Franck and Martine, are exceptionally kind and welcoming, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere throughout the stay. The option to order fresh baguettes and croissants each morning — delivered directly to your table — is a fabulous touch.

The pool area is superb: clean, quiet, and beautifully maintained. The entire site is immaculate, with spotless facilities and consistently hot water. Its small size ensures a peaceful environment, perfect for unwinding.

This is, without doubt, the most relaxing campsite we have ever stayed at, and we will certainly return ! Thank you Franck and Martine!

喜欢 The campsite was very private and beautiful and extremely clean with good facilities. A lovely indoor heated swimming pool and the surrounding gardens were well looked after and very pretty. The walks were fantastic and very scenic and great variety for our dog. The owner was very friendly, personal and helpful and they obviously really cared about their guests wanting to ensure the very best experience. Also the only campsite we have been to with excellent wifi connection.Thank you for such a lovely stay and we will definitely be back!

喜欢 lovely pitch, warm and welcoming owners. Very quiet despite a wedding party being there. Absolutely loved the spa chalet with sauna and jacuzzi and booked it every night. Great swimming pool too. Lovely garden.

This is cognac country. Start with tours and tastings at Courvoisier, about five minutes’ drive from Les Pilotis du Cognac, then head in to Cognac for the same at Camus, Remy Martin, Martell, Hennessy and Cognac Meukow. While in Cognac, stick around for more than the brandy – there are plenty of museums, and the Château Royal de Cognac, Jardin Public and La Maison de la Lieutenance are must-sees, plus the scenic medieval streets are super strollable. Once you step away from the cognac of it all, there’s still plenty to do in the area around Les Pilotis. Montendre (around 50 minutes away) is a worthy visit, with its old buildings, château and lake where you can hire pedalos and canoes or laze on the beach – to see everything, make sure to call in to the tourist office for a guided tour. Stick with history with stops at the Roman ruins at Saintes, the châteaux de Dampierre-sur-Boutonne and de la Roche Courbon, and the stunningly scenic village (and UNESCO World Heritage Site) of Saint-Jean-d’Angély, or stick with the scenic at Pons and Jonzac. Kids chafing at the bit? Try a trip to the coast (roughly an hour away) or stick closer to home at Les Antilles de Jonzac waterpark.
