Swimming pool

General

  • In the grounds of a 16th-century abbey outside Bouttencourt
  • Half an hour's drive from the coast and 50 minutes from Dieppe ferries
  • Swimming pool, river fishing, pétanque court and games room on site

All your 21st-century mod cons in a setting straight from the 16th century – sign up for a blend of both eras with a stay at Somme site Domaine de Séry.

The focal point of this family-friendly site is the handsome abbey, which has stood here for several centuries: it presides over a park of five hectares, which gives guests plenty of space to roam – perhaps as far as the Bresle river, where fishing rods can be dangled into the water… If the estate’s not large enough for your rambling needs, the huge Eu forest is a 15-minute drive away, and the coast is half and hour away.

Speaking of the coast, those planning ferry comings and goings may also like to note that Dieppe is less than an hour’s drive away. Closer to home are the local towns of Bouttencourt (10 minutes’ walk) and Blangy-sur-Bresle (20 minutes), which are your nearest sources of supermarket supplies, market pickings and restaurant meals.

Back at your sizeable domain, get set for swims in the open-air pool or flex your bowling arm at the pétanque court. A playground is on site to keep the kids happy on fine days; they can retreat to the indoor games room for table tennis or table football if too many clouds gather, or laze in front of the TV for a bit of chillout time.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/07 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

This a pretty camp site set in a beautiful area, really convenient for main roads and the facilities, while basic, are clean and there's a decent activities area as well. The staff were really friendly and helpful as well. We'll be back to stay here again.

Lovely grounds, very spacious. Playground. Location very convenient to motorway but far enough to be quiet. Also right near a nice village with all the shops etc you might need. Facilities were clean, toilets with seats and toilet paper and soap provided. Perfect for stopovers.

    Disliked:

Although kept clean and perfectly adequate, the facilities are a bit old and tired and probably due an update.

Great location just off the motorway, ideal for a stop off on the way to or from holiday. It’s about 1hr 45 from Calais. Wooded pitches which make for a pretty site. Facilities are basic but adequate and clean - there were plenty of places in the shower to put your clothes, towel, toiletries etc. Very spacious grounds and a play park for little people. Good value for money.

Super location, quiet and peaceful pitches, lots of space, very picturesque. Friendly and helpful staff. Relaxed style and attitude. We had thought there might not be any electric hookups but there were plenty with no issues. Good activities for the kids eg playground, lots of stuff available to borrow such as a basketball and board games.

    Disliked:

It was clear on the listing but the lack of food onsite was a shame and the walk into town for a restaurant was longer than we had thought. WiFi only in the main building. The sanitation block was a bit basic though fine overall (and the toilets in the main building were great).

Absolutely perfect for a quick overnight stop en route both to and from Calais - just 2 hrs away from the port, and a very short drive off the A28 (albeit not signposted at all). Good price and quiet.

A lovely setting, although the recently arrived suite of mobile homes quite close to the front of the old Abbey in July 2019 does nothing to enhance its beauty. Main facilities are in the Abbey building itself, but a basic toilet/washing block near the tent area was adequate.

Indoor games area, outdoor basketball pitch and simple climbing frame, weren't needed by us, but a nice touch for anyone with younger kids

Local attractions

Got an eye for gorgeous things? This part of the world is well known for its glassware, and a good collection of examples is at the glass museum in Blangy-sur-Bresle (five minutes’ drive or 20 minutes’ walk); sign up for a guided tour and they’ll show you the traditional glassblowing technique too.

Also rather gorgeous is the many-turreted Château de Rambures (10 minutes’ drive): there are some pretty gardens to wander around here, and a selection of medieval-style games to try your hand at too. For more handsome historic buildings, aim for Amiens (50 minutes), home to half-timbered houses and a Gothic cathedral that’s twice the size of Notre-Dame in Paris. A boat through the fab floating gardens is a real must as well.

Time for a sea view? Take the half-hour drive to Le Tréport to stroll through the old fishing quarter, dine at the seafood restaurants and ride the funicular (it’s free – hurrah) up to the clifftops for cracking views. If you’d rather play on the beach, make for neighbouring Mers-les-Bains instead, making sure to leave time to take in the resort’s Belle Epoque buildings too.
