  • Peaceful family- and dog-friendly site near the banks of river Aisne
  • Half an hour’s drive from Soissons and 40 minutes from Reims
  • On-site restaurant, heated indoor pool and play area
If you’re seeking a stay at a site that welcomes dogs and families, narrow it down to Camping de la Pointe in Bourg-et-Comin, an Aisne park at the centre of a triangle made up of Laon, Soissons and Reims. As well as being close enough to these three top towns and cities for day trips, the site’s in a nifty location near a handful of historical attractions and within easy access of car-free adventures. Kick off scenic hikes and bike rides around local canals and alongside rivers or follow your compass towards lakes and ponds for fishing. Failed to land a fine specimen for supper? No problem. The restaurant just next door dishes up French cuisine using local ingredients and is run by folk who pride themselves on their traditional Breton crêpes. There’s also a takeaway option on pizzas – handy after long days out when all you want to do is get comfy in your digs for the evening. And if you fancy rustling up your own eats, barbecues are permitted. When your food’s gone down, dive into the heated indoor pool (open from April to September).

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked Nice and quiet, clean and friendly. A small site which suited us, surrounded by lovely trees and has a really nice feel about it. Staff were really nice and friendly. The burger restaurant, La Ranch, is round the corner and did a very good steak frites and cheap bottle of wine.

Disliked Nothing really. The pizza at the next door restaurant wasn't great but we forgot about the last time we had pizza in France.

Electric optional grass motorhome pitch

Liked Great campsite. Lovely pitch with a hedge around. Good toilet facilities and small covered swimming pool. The owner was very friendly and helpful. We loved the bread and pastries we ordered from the reception and the pizzas in the evening. It was also very convenient as we arrived in France earlier that day.

Electric optional grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Echt prima camping. Broodservice, zwembadje. Rustig, in elk geval toen wij er waren. Boodschappen doen moet je 10-15 minuten voor rijden. Vriendelijke beheerders. In de buurt is een simpel maar lekker eetterras en de camping heeft een eigen pizzeria, maar die is niet altijd open.
Wij waren er voor WO 1 (in de buurt van Chemin des Dames, dragon-hole)

Local attractions

History buffs will be in their element hereabouts thanks to sights like the Caverne du Dragon, the Musée du Chemin des Dames (10 minutes’ drive), an underground museum set in former war tunnels and dedicated to WWI soldiers. Vauclair Abbey (10 minutes) is another old-timey spot to visit for roams around the ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian monastery; for architecture that’s a little more intact, take yourself over to the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Laon (25 minutes) or stroll around Soissons’ ancient centre, museums and gardens (half an hour). Another settlement to skip through is Reims for its striking basilica, cathedral and palace (40 minutes). This city – considered by many to be the capital of the Champagne region – also has a handful of houses hosting tours and tastings of the fizzy stuff the area is famed for. If sipping on bubbly hasn’t quashed your hankering for historical expeditions, head to Donjon de Septmonts (half an hour) and climb to the top of the keep for views out over the countryside. Follow up with a visit to the Fort of Condé monument (20 minutes) as well to see this 17th-century site on the Séré de Rivières system. And if the kids aren’t best pleased with all these bricks-and-mortar-based adventures? Take them along to the Parc de Coupaville adventure park (half an hour) to bound on the inflatable games.
