  • Off-grid adults-only glamping on a peaceful riverside site
  • A short walk from the Route des Vignobles; 10 minutes’ drive to Marçon
  • Trout fishing on site; outdoor kitchen; shower and fridge per pitch
You may soon fancy yourself quite the wine aficionado after visiting Le Moulin de St Blaise in Sarthe… this adults-only glamping site in a peaceful riverside position is 15 minutes’ walk away from Lhomme village, where the Route des Vignobles (an old wine route) runs through – good news for those of you who are partial to a drink or two. It’s not just wine tasting and winemaking tours that take the limelight here, though. A 10-minute drive from Marçon and 15 minutes from Forêt de Bercé, watersports, horse riding or woodland walks may also factor into your stay. Perhaps fishing too, as the site’s river is stocked with trout. There’s ample wildlife around the site, as this off-grid place is surrounded by 10 acres of fields and woodlands. You’ll need to bring your own bedding and towels or hire some from the site at a weekly rate, but the bell tents have a comfy double bed or two singles with a mattress protector and bottom sheet. Outside, there’s an eco-friendly composting toilet, sun loungers and an outdoor kitchen area with a gas burner, crockery, pots and pans and a table for two – true alfresco-style. The main building (alongside the free car park) houses a shower and fridge for each tent, communal dishwashing points (sanitised twice daily), flushable toilets and charging points. Smoking is permitted outside the tent only. Refreshments on your mind? Aside from its wine museum, Lhomme also has two bars and restaurants, a boulangerie, butchers, grocers and hairdressers.

Local attractions

What exactly is in store when you go down the Route des Vignobles (15 minutes’ walk)? Well, you’ll be able to either walk, cycle or drive your way around the wine route, filling your shopping bag with local wines such as Jasnieres and Coteaux du Loir or sipping as you go along. The closest winemaker to the site is in Cahaignes (five minutes' drive), by the way… Now, you won’t want to go too far overboard, as there's lots to do by way of energetic activities around this area, whether that’s swimming, canoeing and archery around Marçon's lake and beach (10 minutes), golfing at the closest golf course (45 minutes) or walking and cycling through the Forêt de Bercé (15 minutes). For a glimpse into the past, the Loire Valley (an hour and 20 minutes), you’ll be able to take a close look at the architectural heritage and its collection of castles known as the Châteaux of the Loire Valley. Meanwhile, there are two cathedral cities within reach too: Tours (50 minutes) and Le Mans (50 minutes). Each has a historical centre and the latter is a staple on the racing calendar in case you’re scouting out horse racing events.
