Hire a bike on site and pedal the short distance to the beach from the Loire-Atlantique's Camping de la Baie, where the sands and coastal trail of the bay of Pen-Bé are within an easy 600 metres. Maps are provided if you want to venture further: a highly recommended option as the Morbihan mussel beds of Penestin can be reached in six kilometres; the town of Asserac is within three, and the splendid sights and outdoor activities of the Brière Regional Natural Park start on the edge of the site. If you're feeling fully energetic, you'll also be a 15-kilometre ride from the fishing port of La Turballe and the medieval walled town of Guérande: both, also, highly recommended... Keeping active sorts entertained on site, a kids' club and activities for all ages such as live music, dancing and night-time swimming sessions run in the summer months. Also around are a heated pool and a hot tub, a multisports pitch, a pétanque court and table tennis, along with a paddling pool and a playground for the enfants. The well-stocked mini market sells groceries, newspapers, fresh bread and pastries; there's a spacious snack bar and bar with a covered terrace, and stone barbecues are available for guests' use.

Local attractions

A sandy beach for swimming and sunbathing is 600 metres from Camping de la Baie, with more of the same at the Asserac beach of Baie des Dames, just to the south. If you're up for horse riding, kayaking or paddleboarding, all can be arranged at Penestin six kilometres away in Brittany's Morbihan, where the curious can also tour the Penestin mussel beds among the town's 20 kilometres of coastline, cliffs and dozen sandy beaches. For a delve into more local gastronomic history, visit the Terre de Sel salt harvesters in Pradel, 17 kilometres away. Camping de la Baie's also on the edge of the Brière Regional Natural Park, 40,000 wetland hectares to hike, bike or hack around, or to explore by flat-bottomed boat around the main expanse of the Grande Brière. A horse riding school and pony club are at the spectacular Bay of La Baule, about 20 kilometres away. Two more top destinations are a short drive away: the fishing town of La Turballe and the walled town of Guérande, both within 15 kilometres. A bit further (and more budget friendly than La Baule) is another local fishing port in Le Croisic (20 kilometres), home too to the spacious Océarium.
