Pitches with electricity

General

  • Peaceful rural family site five minutes' drive from Hesdin
  • A half-hour drive from the Opal Coast, with walks and gardens nearby
  • Eco-friendly setup with sociable meals and kids' nature activities

The site’s name promises flowers… and flowers it certainly provides (plus plenty of other greenery too). Camping De La Route Fleurie, a kilometre and a half from Saint-Georges and three kilometres from Hesdin, has been set up to help guests make the most of the fab Pas-de-Calais countryside while also doing its eco-friendly best to preserve those splendid surroundings.

It’s all about ‘the pleasure of simple things’ they say here… be that a sociable drink at the bar, a bit of time helping the nippers follow the nature guides to spot signs of animal life or taking a seat to gaze out over the rural views. Nature-themed activities run on site for the small sorts, and there’s space to play games or wander around at your own pace too, taking in the trees, flowers and veg patch as you wander.

Veg patch caught your eye? Yep, this is the source of much of the organic food served up on site, at the restaurant or the sociable themed meals; what can’t be grown here is brought in from other producers around the surrounding 7 Valleys area. That eco-friendly attitude also stretches to lots of other little touches: you’ll see rainwater harvesting and veg composting in action, and guests can play their part by sorting waste ready for reuse and recycling.

As you may guess, the top activities around this area are equally wholesome: the folk on site can recommend places for such things as hiking, canoeing, archery and mountain biking (and they can hire you bikes for your outings too). There’s a games room and pétanque area on site too if you fancy staying a little closer to home for some gentle activity.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/07 and 31/08.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

A cable measuring at least 3 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

The bar is open between 01/07 and 31/08.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Pitches were fine, very friendly and helpful owner, lovely cold beer and delicious sandwiches and frites!

    Disliked:

Sanitary and washing facilities are in need of updating - although I understand that the owner is new (just before Covid) so I’m sure that is coming!

Very cheap for a quick stopover.

    Disliked:

Entering and exiting is almost impossible if there are no staff about as there is an entry barrier that isn’t automatic and you are not provided with a key.
€5 deposit for a toilet/shower block key (which is fine) but no toilet seats, no toilet roll, cold water and not clean in the slightest.
Pitched in the middle of a static, residential area which is very noisy! Pitch site is VERY uneven!
I understand new owners have taken over in the last 3 months but this does not justify the EXTREMELY poor standard of site.

From the manager...

Hi Matthew, as you say the Price IS vert cheap, we have two stars not 3 or 4.
That's right the gate IS not automatic, and the opening is possible when the office is open, we can't give a pass for everyone who start for one night.
And when you Book the same day of your arrival you can't have the best pitch or the campsite, it's sure.
Thanks.

Great pitches with shade in places. Proprietor happy to find a pitch with more shade for me and my dog! The site was welcoming of dogs and people - lots of summer residents at the static homes who liked to greet and find out about me. Lovely site.

    Disliked:

Facilities need work. Also the fact that you need a pass to leave the site (and these are not granted to short term users) made leaving early in the morning to avoid the heat impossible.

The new owner is so friendly and helpful, couldn’t do enough to make our stay a good one. She is revamping the site and it should be really lovely. A small site, eco and chilled with chickens and wonderful little garden ‘potage’. Has a mixture of local seasonal residents and campers passing through, all very friendly. Really hope they do well!

    Disliked:

Sanitation’s basic - always a shock for kids from uk. No toilets seats and BYO loo roll and soap! Teething problems - not everything working but owner happy to put things right!!

Local attractions

Appetite for more greenery? Take wanders along the flower-flanked trails of Le Jardin des Lianes (10 minutes’ drive), Les Jardins de Sericourt (25 minutes) and Les Jardins de Valloires (25 minutes) or aim for the Caps and Opal Marsh Regional Natural Park (45 minutes) for stress-busting strolls in more natural environs.

Or perhaps you’d like to mix in a few coastal views – in which case aim for choice Opal Coast spots like Le Touquet and Berck-Plage or seek out a serene spot on the sands somewhere in between. Whichever bit you pick, it’s about a 40-minute drive away… although a stop to see the fortified Montreuil (25 minutes) along the way is a fine idea indeed.

If the kids clamour for a little activity outside of nature and beaches, plot a course for the rides of Dennlys Parc or Parc Bagatelle, both of which are a little over a half-hour drive away.
