  • Family-run park surrounded by five lakes and the Clairmarais forest
  • In the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park
  • Fishing, playground and summer entertainment and food nights

A lush green setting surrounded by five lakes and close to the fab and vast Clairmarais  forest is yours for the taking at Camping Municipal Beausejour, a family-run and family-friendly park near Arques in the Pas-de-Calais department.

Staying on and around the site will have you nicely occupied whatever your tastes: the site is by a lake for fishing and waterside wanders, and the big playground can keep the kids entertained while you get on with the serious business of idling around or using the free wifi. Pétanque, ping pong and table football are around for when (if) you're up for stirring somewhat.... then you can amble along to the sports tournaments and food nights that make up part of the July and August evening entertainment programme.

Around the region, this part of northern France is tiptop for cycling, forest hiking and trout fishing; the famed and UNESCO-listed Audomarois marshes, and Camping Municipal Beausejour is within the Caps et Marais d'Opale Natural Regional Park for boating and wildlife watching. Dunkirk, Calais and Lille are all within 55 minutes' drive.

The site's closest town is Arques, two and a half kilometres away.

Very nice site in small village, shops close by, small supermarket, bakers. situated on side of one of the lakes in tranquil setting. You can walk int0 Saint Omar in just over an hour. Toilet blocks are modern and clean, sites are surrounded by hedges on three sides really private.

good if you need to catch the ferry 07/08/2018

beautiful, large, private and flat pitches. very close to to Calais and Dunkirk.

    Disliked:

noisy from a local factory, smell from the local lakes, smelling toilets, hot water not to hot and you have to press the button constantly otherwise the water last less than a second. We thought the local attractions the surroundings were lovely ( according to the description in the web site). We thought the camping was surrounded by amazing forests, lakes and beautiful green area. However the camping is in a small and ugly town full of council buildings, yes there are few lakes around the campsite but they are smelling fishing lakes with an huge and noisy factory. There is a forest but it s not well kept. When we asked the owners about what do do, they didn't even know and gave some brochures but not very helpful. When I asked if the forest was nice he said no, so why in the website description it's written beautiful surrounding, forests....?For our opinion the camping is good if you need to catch the ferry the following day but it's not a wonderful place for a holiday.

This place was fabulous. We only stayed one night but the pitches were spacious, well kept and the ablution block was clean and tidy. We chose it because of its proximity ot Calais so we had a short run the next day to the ferry after a long road trip around France and Italy.

There are some negative comments about the kids playground in the centre of the park, but the kids were happy, having fun and generally did not impose on others.

Add that to the fact that it was about half of what we paid anyhwere else and I cant see anything not to like.

The individual pitches are clearly hedged about and marked so privacy is good in a very compact site. The facilities are also very good. We only stayed one night but were able to explore the area with bikes and discovered some beautiful nature areas nearby. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

    Disliked:

Only dislike was the nearness of the railway line but trains didn't run all night. My shower could have been better.

Good site, clean with large pitches each hedged in. Showers clean and plenty of them. Owners friendly and spoke English. Good value circa €12 for pitch with electricity and WiFi available for free at reception. Walking distance to nearby town with supermarkets etc.

    Disliked:

Quite large and felt a bit commercial but otherwise can’t complain.

Local attractions

This is spectacular countryside, with five lakes as well as the Clairmarais forest within walking distance and walking routes within easy reach.

Get around all the local lakes if poss: there's Étang d'Harchelles, dug in the forest by the monks of the Abbey of Saint Bertin; Étang de Malhove, a protected nature park; Étang Beauséjour, right by the site, and the lakes at Arc-en-ciel, popular for trout fishing. The Clairmarais forest is also a must, for leafy hiking days, more small lakes, and heron and owl spotting (and if you have a few hundred spare euros, the 17th-century Belgian tapestries of the forest make for rather fine souvenirs too).

For more strolls and hikes, take the nine and a half-kilometre of the Fontinettes Path or the four and a half-kilometre trail around the streets and history of Arques.
