- Family-friendly site on a five-hectare island in the Tarn river
- Next to a riverside bike path; a 15-minute walk from Moissac centre
- Swimming pool, kids' pool, playground, food truck, summer activities
The peaceful vibe of an island escape, the convenience of being a 15-minute stroll from town – what a splendid setting has Camping Le Moulin de Bidounet. This fab Midi-Pyrenees mix is just outside the little town of Moissac and, yes indeed, on its own island in the Tarn river.
The current owners aren't the first to spot the excellent potential of this location – that credit goes to the folk who first set up a water mill here way back in 1859. The old mill building now functions as the site’s reception, so you can get a sense of the history of the place as soon as you set foot in the place... and if you like that, you’ll most likely love the rest of what Moissac has to offer, including a thousand-year-old abbey and a handsome Art Deco district.
The setting may have history but the facilities here are very much of the here and now, including a swimming pool, kids’ pool, playground and pétanque court, along with a games room and a TV room for those days when you need to shelter from the weather. Extra games, crafts and other antics are laid on for the nippers in summer too.
If you do fancy spending a bit of time on the activities of our ancestors, head to the riverbank for a bit of fishing or strike up a fire at the barbecue area; if you don’t, source your dinner the 21st-century way by stopping at the food truck and snaffling a beer from the bar.

Local attractions
Good news for folk who fancy a break from driving: you can fill plenty of time hereabouts without getting in the car. For starters, you can hire bikes on site to pedal your way along the Canal des Deux Mers voie verte bike path 500 metres away or join a guided bike tour through the region’s fruit orchards in summer.
Yearning to get out on the Tarn? Watery escapades are a cinch too – hire small boats, canoes and paddleboards in town, take a week-long rowing course or try your hand at water-skiing (or just board a small cruise boat if that all sounds a bit exhausting).
You’ll want to spend some time moseying around Moissac too, of course – don’t miss the UNESCO-listed 12th-century abbey and a saunter through the stylish Art Deco area. If you think you can manage a drive on the odd day or two, make tracks for the toy museum and old bridge in Montauban (half an hour's drive) or head to Toulouse (an hour) for museums, gardens and snacking on the city’s famed sausages.
