  • Handsome setting in the Luz valley, 1.5 kilometres from Saligos
  • Under 5 kilometres from Luzéa thermal baths; 25 minutes from Lourdes
  • Pool, bar with terrace, music nights, playground and bakery
Spa stays, sporty stays or sightseeing stays... take your pick or make up a mix at Camping So de Prous. Mountain views come at standard whichever you opt for here, as So de Prous is in the Hautes-Pyrénées and the Pyrénées National Park along the French/Spanish border, in a spectacularly handsome setting a kilometre and a half by foot from the mountain town of Saligos. And for your spa, sporty and sightseeing days? The site is under five kilometres from Luzéa thermal baths, close to hiking trails and the GR 10 around Saligos, and within easy reach of famed destinations like Lourdes 25 minutes' away. Snowshoeing, skiing, mountain biking and fishing are also in the region, or you could venture out on a wildlife watching trip to spot chamois and marmots – or zip over by car to Lac d'Estaing for waterside walks and fishing... friendly owners Véronique and Jean-Jacques can advise on the lot. Active and easy days on site are easily had around the spacious and scenic So de Prous grounds or at the plentiful leisure facilities. The outdoor pool comes – of course – with splendid mountain views; if that's a tad too tame, a space has been set aside on site for games and parties including summer music nights and themed dinners. A playground, bowls area and games room with TV, table football, and ping pong are also on site – next to the bar and its terrace for viewsome tipples. Other conveniences include a bakery and a grocery shop selling essentials, a free freezing service, and mountain biking and hiking maps at reception: you'll likely want to do either/both around here.

Local attractions

Get out onto the GR 10 in the site surrounding, for some (or all?) of the splendid 886-kilometre run along the length of the Pyrenees and the French–Spanish border on the French side. Pick it up three and a half kilometres away at Luz-Saint-Sauveur, where you should also have a stopoff to see its Templar church, the ruins of the Château Sainte-Marie, and the famed Pont Napoléon bridge connecting the two banks of the Gave de Gavarnie. Cyclists should make for the mighty mountain pass of Col du Tourmalet, the highest paved mountain pass in the French Pyrenees and one of the best known climbs of the Tour de France. Start off on the western side from Luz-Saint-Sauveur to tackle the 19-kilometre run ascending over 1,400 metres; if your legs will then take it, the eastern run starts at Sainte-Marie-de-Campan and covers just over 17 kilometres. A must-see within 45 minutes' drive is the stunning Cirque de Gavarnie, described by Victor Hugo as 'the Colosseum of nature' because of its vast amphitheatre-like setting.
