Down in Alsace-Lorraine lie these fab little safari tents, bringing a flavour of the Serengeti to the countryside of eastern France. Villatent at Camping Au Clos de la Chaume is on the edge of the town of Corcieux and is 20 minutes' drive from Lac de Gérardmer, an especially scenic backdrop for all manner of aquatic adventure.
The tents here come with a nifty kitchen corner, comfy beds, roomy living space and outdoor areas for alfresco relaxation. The bright and spacious canvas units are also a short walk from the site's food shop, play area, washroom facilities and laundry room. In terms of leisure, there are pools on hand, plus a handy kids' club also available during the high season. A bar is available for drinks, snacks and (in high season) freshly-made sarnies.
The site is pleasantly open, green and fringed by woodland; a stream where the kids can splash about also runs through it. Those who want to get wet above the ankle will find more suitable wild swimming spots at Lac de Gérardmer's lido or lifeguarded beach (20 minutes). And while you won't want to take a dip at Tendon waterfalls (30 minutes), the whooshing waters there are very much worth gazing at.
Need extra grub or an afternoon activity? Corcieux has a supermarket, a handful of restaurants and a cinema.

Arm yourself with some sun cream and don your best beach attire – Lac de Gérardmer (20 minutes' drive) has various top-rated swimming spots, so all that's left is to roll up and take your pick. There's also a fair bit to see in Gérardmer town (20 minutes): swan about here if you fancy lakeside orienteering or (once you've crossed everything) heading to the casino.
Dreams of making it big crushed by the cruel hand of the croupier? Other local activities are just as invigorating and don't come with the hefty price tag. For cheaper sky-high thrills, chuck a picnic in the boot and take a spin along the scenic Route des Crêtes (30 minutes). Further high-altitude frolicking is in store at Bol d’Air adventure park (30 minutes), where the most intrepid travellers can free-dive onto an air-filled mattress.
The riverside city of Colmar (an hour), meanwhile, is a strong contender for the title of Alsace's prettiest town. You'll have plenty of Gothic and Renaissance architecture to admire as you stroll through its cobbled streets, not to mention opportunities to stock up on local Riesling and Gewürztraminer wine…

No refunds within 1 day of arrival date.
91 or more days before arrival : 15% of the total cost will be retained.
90 days - 61 days before arrival : 50% of the total cost will be retained.
60 days - 31 days before arrival : 75% of the total cost will be retained.
30 days - 2 days before arrival : 90% of the total cost will be retained.
Changes cannot be made once you have booked.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
The site is not liable for any refund in the event of force majeure.
If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancellations and for your property/injury whilst away.

Payment
Deposit transferable during COVID-19. Villatent at Camping Au Clos de la Chaume will debit the balance from your card 3 weeks before arrival, or if the arrival date is sooner than 3 weeks then the balance will be taken immediately.
Hired accommodation: €300.00 (£267.35) damage/cleanliness/bracelet deposit is required on arrival and will be refunded on departure after inspection of your unit should no damage/losses be found.
