Up for some alfresco activity? Hiking, cycling, canoeing, mountain bike trails, paragliding, open-water swimming tickle your fancy? If the answer’s an enthusiastic ‘oui, merci’ then say bonjour to Camping Le Vianon, in the woods just outside the teeny village of Palisse and a mere three kilometres from the edge of Millevaches Regional Natural Park. From this peaceful rural spot paths lead directly into the park for easy access to forest trails, and aquatic antics can be had at one of the local lakes. In between outings, there’s plenty to keep you busy on site if you so require. Take a dip in the open-air pool, take your fishing kit over to the pond or gather folk for a game of badminton, table tennis, tennis, volleyball or pétanque. Quiet times can be aided by selecting something from the site’s collection of books, and perhaps stretching out on a poolside sun lounger (even quieter times if you pack les enfants off to the playground, or pick a board game for them). It’s a good 15 minutes’ drive to a supermarket from here, so stock up while you’re out if you fancy an evening sizzling sausages on the barbie. Fret not if you forget any bits though – there’s a grocery store on site, and you can pick up your fresh bread here every day. Or you could take it easy by heading to the snack bar to eat dinner (and breakfast too if you wish). Either way, a fab way to end the day is with a drink on the bar terrace (or in the cosy indoor area on chillier days).
