- Tree-lined site on the banks of Lac de Bort-les-Orgues
- Watersports centre, lake beach, tennis and fishing a short walk away
- Scenic location with playground, pétanque and summer kids' activities
Who’s up for a lovely slice of lakeside life for their next family holiday? On the banks of Lac de Bort-les-Orgues (part of the Dordogne river) and views across to the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park, Camping Les Aubazines makes an excellent location for your Corrèze break.
This splendid setting will appeal to active types and relaxation-seekers alike, with plenty of options for things to do but also plenty of lovely spots where you can simply chill out and soak up the scenic views over the water to the Sancy Massif.
The active options start right there on site – it’s got a playground, table tennis, pétanque and a volleyball court for starters, along with free kids’ club activities (for ages five to 12) in July and August. For a bit of quieter time, you can fish in the lake right next to the site or head indoors to use the TV room and play board games.
Heading out, there are marked hiking trails starting from the site, mountain bikes available to rent and a whole heap of excellent local leisure facilities within a short walk – a watersports centre and heated outdoor pool (open in July and August) among them.
You’ll need plenty of food to support all this action, of course, so it’s handy that there’s a basic grocery store and bread service on site (in high season), a bar-restaurant a short walk away, and shops and supermarkets in Bort-les-Orgues, about five minutes’ drive away. Other useful amenities on site include a launderette and a wifi service.

Local attractions
The lake is the big highlight around here, of course – it’s a real hub of activities, including canoeing, kayaking and fishing, and there are also beach areas for paddling, swimming, playing games and picnicking. A heated pool and free-use tennis courts are also open in summer, or you could set off for a walk on one of the marked hiking trails.
All of this is within walking distance, but it’s worth seeing what lies a little further afield – perhaps heading to the lake’s opposite shore for waterskiing at Universe Glide or to explore the fabulous waterside setting of 13th-century Château de Val (both 10 minutes’ drive). Les Orgues (five minutes), the rock formations that lent their name to the town, are well worth seeing too.
Further away, there are lots of spectacular hiking and cycling trails in the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park, and the chance to learn about a local industry at the Museum of Tanning and Leather (five minutes). Meanwhile, kids may like the chance to find their way out of the maze at Labyrinthe maïs de Bassignac (20 minutes).
