  • Nature-focused Pyrénées-Orientales site by the Llech river
  • Half an hour's drive to Perpignan; 20 minutes to Le Train Jaune
  • Natural river pool on site, plus restaurant and bike hire
If you’re pining for some peaceful time in the Pyrenees, take a good look at Camping Le Canigou. This nature-focused site by the Llech river in Espira-de-Conflent describes itself as a ‘riverside nature oasis between the sea and the mountains’ – and doesn’t that just sound like a pretty wonderful combination for an outdoor break? This area is packed with things to see and do – you may well find yourselves filling your days with activities like mountain biking, hiking, canyoning and climbing, visiting historic attractions like the Cathar castles and Romanesque abbeys or heading to the coast for beach days and seaside towns. Back on site, the pace slows down significantly – this is a place where you’ll be able to spend a quiet hour or few taking dips in the natural river pool (open from June onwards), soaking up the splendid scenery or enjoying a long, leisurely meal at the restaurant. A play area, games room and pétanque court are on hand for those who need a bit of activity in their lives, and you can also hire bikes to go pedalling around the local area. Everyday amenities have been nicely thought out at the site as well – guests have access to all sorts of handy things including a small convenience store (with fresh bread sales in high season), wifi, a launderette, a washing-up area and bathrooms with wheelchair-accessible facilities.
