The walks are epic the scenery is stunning. The lake is perfect to cool off in and there are plenty of activities to partake in. boats, pedalos fire works and the man made beach is great no salt like the sea and a life guard watching over.

    Disliked:

The pitches are dirt and dust that coats everything. the site is on the side of a west facing mountain and doesn't get the sun until midday this makes it quite dark and cold first thing. The toilets are a state the sinks are cracked with razor sharp edges and there is graffiti on the backs of all the doors lucky my kids cant read french. There was a pooh in the shower.

Local attractions

Pick up a bike map at base and cycle off into the region surrounding Camping Le Lac; if this just isn't adventurous enough for you, plenty of climbing paths are marked nearby. The GR700 or Régordane path, running for 242km through the Lozère, Haute-Loire and Gard departments, passes near the site.

The sixteenth century Château de Castanet is on the shore of Lac de Villefort and holds exhibitions throughout the year; another historical highlight in the area is the medieval village of La Garde Guerin, a trade route through the region since Roman times.

Treetop adventuring is available in the nearby forest as well as – for the non faint-hearted – a walk along the via ferrata overlooking the lake. A bit further afield, the nature and art park Vallon du Villaret has heaps of contemporary artworks scattered along its ten acres of park.
