Local attractions

Pick up a bike map at base and cycle off into the region surrounding Camping Lac de Villefort; if this just isn't adventurous enough for you, plenty of climbing paths are marked nearby. The GR700 or Régordane path, running for 242km through the Lozère, Haute-Loire and Gard departments, passes near the site. The sixteenth century Château de Castanet is on the shore of Lac de Villefort and holds exhibitions throughout the year; another historical highlight in the area is the medieval village of La Garde Guerin, a trade route through the region since Roman times. Treetop adventuring is available in the nearby forest as well as – for the non faint-hearted – a walk along the via ferrata overlooking the lake. A bit further afield, the nature and art park Vallon du Villaret has heaps of contemporary artworks scattered along its ten acres of park.
