Get ready to get active. You’re at Domaine d’Arnauteille, set on a verdant 115-hectare private estate deep in hilly, forested Aude countryside. With mountain views on all sides – you can see the Corbières Massif, the Montagne Noire and the Pyrenees – staying here also puts you close to the rural village of Montclar (five minutes’ drive) and historic Carcassonne (half an hour). Actually, there’s so much to do around the site, you may never get to Carcassonne. Or the Pyrenees. By day, life revolves around the amphitheatre-styled water park with mountain views, indoor and outdoor pools, water chutes and a paddling pool for youngsters. Teens and parents can laze on the sundeck or take their turn in spas baths and massage jets. To up the activity ante, locally you can go hiking, mountain biking or horse riding through vineyards, take to the Aude river for a spot of white-water rafting… the list goes on. And it’s not just sporty types who will have a ball here. Entertainment is laid on for the kids, who get to make puppets and go on treasure hunts. There’s a library, a TV room, a games room… Adults soon get into the holiday spirit too, thanks to the bar in the vaulted cellars and a restaurant with a shaded terrace. So… pretty much everything you need for family downtime is on tap. No need to fret about running out of supplies either; simply stock up on fruits, vegetables and wine at the site’s essentials shop, and pick up fresh pastries and baguettes every morning.

Liked Lovely location, super helpful staff great swimming pool. Sadly we were there when a huge storm passed through. As a result power was knocked out and services halted. Nothing the campsite could have done about this as it was out of human control

Disliked Nothing. Shame we had to leave

Liked The setting was fabulous. Gorgeous scenery and walking tracks. Facilities were lovely and clean. The kids had so much to do with the parks, bouncy castle and pools. Pool choices was great. The bar and shop offered enough for what we needed. Staff extremely helpful. Pitches lovely and big. Entertainment was great. Kids club really good too.

Disliked Pools were a little cold for my liking…. But that’s being picky

Liked Nous avons passé une semaine entière dans ce camping et honnêtement rien à reprocher.
Le personnels du camping sont très gentils et nous accueillant très bien.
Camping assez calme avec des animations tout les soirs ainsi que 3 grandes piscines et 3 toboggans avec un petit bar inclus avec pas mal de choix.
Je recommande ce camping les yeux fermés.

Liked Lovely site- we arrived for an overnighter on a very rainy, stormy night so limited in what we could use. Pool facilities looked great and lots of pitches seem to have great views. We were able to use restaurant as couldn’t cook outdoors food was very good.

Liked Pitches were private.
Shower block was huge and really good.

Disliked Pitch was on the other side of a steep hill to all the facilities which wasn’t ideal in the summer heat.

Liked Facilities are excellent. Clean showers and toilets, set against a Greek looking mosaic.
The pools are plenty and all different.

Disliked The campsite is on the side of a mountain/hill...so plenty of steep walking.
The shop was poorly stocked and not much variation.
The entertainment was LOUD which was really inappropriate at the time of night. Not suitable if you have younger children at all.

Local attractions

If you manage to drag the family away from the pool complex, Carcassonne (half an hour’s drive) should be high on your list of potential visits. Wrapped in medieval walls, this little town is almost Disney-esque in its gorgeousness: book a guided tour of the turreted Château Comtal, visit the gothic Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus, and see some pretty repulsive torture implements in the Museum of the Inquisition. Book a barge trip down the Canal du Midi, take a family bike ride along its banks or head to Lac de la Cavayère (both half an hour) for swims in clear water and rounds of mini-golf. For more adrenaline-filled, water-based adventures, go whitewater rafting down the steep-sided Pierre Lys gorges (50 minutes). If you’d care to dip into the region’s history, visit the four clifftop Cathar castles at Châteaux de Lastours (40 minutes) to stroll ruined courtyards, climb spiral staircases up towers with arrow slits in the walls, and see murder holes where prisoners once starved to death.
