Boat on the river

General

  • Green and peaceful riverside setting with views of the Seine
  • A five-minute drive from Jumièges
  • Fishing, zipwire, climbing, archery and golf within three kilometres

Now this is something a bit special… As you may just possibly have suspected from the name, Upper Normandy's Camping de la Seine is on the Seine river, the 777-kilometre waterway that's probably the most famed in all of France: if you're going to vacance anywhere in la France, at some point you should have a holiday here.

Views of France's most famous river and of the Seine valley can be had from all accommodation areas at Camping de la Seine, a green and spacious park set up for comfortable stays in a peaceful setting. The staff here are keen to ensure warm welcomes and a full intro into local life, from arranging trips to local attractions and activity destinations to inviting local farmers to bring the freshest of their seasonal fruit and veg to the site.

Camping de la Seine has showers, toilets, a launderette and wifi. It's five minutes from these green riverside grounds to the old town of Jumièges, for shops and restaurants, barbecue supplies and – such a must – a ride across the Seine on the small ferry linking the town to the ruins of Jumièges Abbey.

Dirty and not Covid aware, but ultimately unorganized! I was treated rudely by manager/owner. I had booked a spot with electricity days in advance, but upon arrival I was denied access to electricity. Apparently all the electric adapters and spots were "already booked". I called the off hours emergency number (there was no one else available to speak with other than a clueless teenager at the accueil) the manager yelled at me through the phone when I simply asked for him to help me solve this problem (Oui, je parles francais, there was no language barrier, he was just rude.) Eventually, he told me he would come to the camp and help, but never showed up. He told me he would refund the extra fee I had paid for electricity, but never did that either.

This is a great place to escape where it is quiet and peaceful. The basic facilities were all that we needed. Plenty of hot water available to collect and use at your own pitch was a plus. We would definitely come again.

Of all the four sites I visited and stayed at this was no doubt the best. Very clean and Covid aware, a short walk to the centre of town and restaurants and bars.
The site manager was very helpful as he could be and took time to help me with purchasing a few items from the shop(and forgiving my very poor french)

One of the few campsites open for the time of year. Very remote, so no shops, bars or restaurants in walking distance. Located on a farm holding near Jumiège direct on the Seine. We stayed 2 nights including New years eve. No fireworks seen or heard, just quiet and totally dark. Toilets and washing facilities old, basic but clean and functional. Hot showers and hot water for washing up. Electricity available and at 0 degrees, not a bad comfort to have. Parked on the gravel driveway because heavy rains had made the grass pitch areas too soft . The guy who keeps an eye on things came and helped us out with an electrical plug (I'd brought the wrong one), which was a big relief, and his local knowledge (all in French).

    Disliked:

Only the wifi was not good. No signal except by the wash facilities. Even network not good, probably due to remoteness and being in a valley. This makes it difficult to plan or find things if you don't have travel guide books.
