  • Only a kilometre away from the beach
  • Family-friendly site with a large swimming pool
  • Large playground, new for 2016

As you might have previously figured out if you've already been on a holiday with small sorts, happy kids = happy parents. And so it is at family-friendly Camping du Menhir in Brittany's Morbihan.

The site has been welcoming families of all flavours since 1972 and run by Chantal and Joël since 2001, so we're fairly certain it knows of what it speaks when it comes to sorting out happy families... It has a widely varied activity and entertainment program for ages six to 12, along with sports tournaments for teens and evening events for all. A playground, trampoline and bouncy castle were added for the 2016 season.

And there's a pool, with a waterslide... and the whole site is a paltry kilometre from a sandy beach, between the ocean and the Gulf of Morbihan. We see beaucoup happy family hols here for all ages.

Camping du Menhir also has a sports court, a bar, a restaurant and a small shop selling essentials.

The site is more set up for caravans, the locals seem to enjoy their caravans but there were tents around too
Our pitch appeared to be a slightly odd shape meaning we couldnt park the car on the pitch, though it was a very large tent, and we parked the car nearby and in sight of the pitch
The pitches are surrounded by hedges, there are trees also amongst them, a shady tree is a must as at points the heat was almost too much to bear
The pitch had a water tap and electricity outlet (remember the eu adaptor)

Toilets are a bit strange if unacustomed, they are signed male and female, which doesnt seem to bother the locals as its all unisex, showers and toilets were clean, and regularly cleaned, although i do remember at one point some unsightly womens products on the floor when the male block was closed for cleaning

The local pool and bar were pleasant as we spent much time there, kids disco and dj in the evenings, there is no lifeguard at the pool this is signposted.

The smell of barbecues in the evenings through the park was incredible.

Wifi signal depends on your location, ours was poor to none untill we neared the pool area.

The locals can be i little noisy in the evenings as there are many gatherings happening not unacceptable in any way and by 11ish all is quiet.

Local beach is nice be sure to get there early as it gets surprisingly busy, clean and with lifeguards.

We would definitely visit again, the local restaurant was nice, great food, freshly cooked, towns nearby nice too, all in a great week away.

Local attractions

We've waxed lyrical before about magnificent Morbihan, and Camping du Menhir is in a well-placed spot for getting to the best of it.

This is the Presqu'ile de Rhuys/Rhuys Peninsula area, a sea stretch of 42 kilometres of coast, many sandy beaches, much watersports, and plenty of traditional Breton fishing villages for traditional Breton seafood. Food markets are all over the region to bring Breton cuisine back to base.

The peninsula is biking and hiking territory too, with over 73km of cycling trails around and a coastal path accessible 300 metres from the site.

Kayaks are available for hire nearby, and you'll also find opps for boat trips and sailing. A golf course, along with shops, a casino and a spa and wellness centre, are all three kilometres away.
