General

  • Quiet and scenic site overlooking the River Étel
  • Within walking distance of a beach and the local village
  • Tennis court, ping pong table, volleyball court and pétanque court

Once again, you must look at the site pics before you read on... For Camping de Saint Cado in Morbihan's Belz region is a truly beaut Brittany site, and has views that will make you want to put down roots and stay forevermore.

Its location is truly smashing too, a pebble throw from the nearest beach, overlooking a harbour and within walking distance of its nearest village Saint Cado: we recommend booking at least a couple of weeks.

Camping de Saint Cado also overlooks the River Étel, known countrywide for its fishing (it was once one of France's main tuna fishing areas), and for its oyster farming which still goes on today (that's an oyster farmhouse in the Camping de Saint Cado main pic).

Elsewhere, peaceful pursuits in this lovely locale could include swimming from the local beach or lounging on the sands with a book, investigating the many restaurants and crêperies of the harbour, or simply strolling along the river when the sun sinks down in the evening...

Camping de Saint Cado has a tennis court, ping pong table, volleyball court, pétanque court and a games room. Bread delivery is available on site in July and August.

A peaceful, well equipped site with friendly, helpful staff. Good, clean facilities. Most nights visited by one of several quality local food vans The site entrance is just a few pine trees away from the estuary and its beach, with evening sunsets and views of small islands. 4 minutes' walk from the stone bridge to St Cado's small island with traditional buildings.

Absolutely loved this well kept campsite and area. The perfect place if you want peace and quiet. Pitches are well spaced out, there is an excellent shower and toilet block which was kept very clean. Gaen, the owner was lovely with a good sense of humour. He speaks English but he was very patient with my bad French and encouraged me to speak it. Also enjoyed practising French with the lovely French campers. Everyone said hello to us when passing and were so friendly and sociable.

Saint-Cado itself is beautiful. A real idyllic place to stay. A small beach 2mins from campsite and a good bar / restaurant down by the harbour. Perfect place to have a beer and some Moules Frites whilst overlooking the stunning estuary. There is a fab supermarket in Belz and there is also an Aldi which is closer. If you want loads of facilities on site maybe not for you but we loved it and we only wish we had stayed longer. We are already looking forward to going back next year.

Loved it! The welcome was superb friendly, helpful, funny fluent English speaking owner Gael. He required no upfront payment and trusted us to pay before we left. The sanitary block was clean with boiling water available all day. A bonus was the free hair dryers...just little touches that make all the difference. Super situation right above a small sandy beach and within strolling distance of a bar and restaurant and the beautiful island of st Cado itself. Although no shop in the village, the bread van visits the site between 8.30 and 9.30 and it's a 10 minute walk to Aldi on the main road. A real gem of a site. A photographer's dream place especially the sunsets over the water.Free wifi too.

Camping St Cado, whilst holding a 2 Star rating, is a perfect little site in a beautiful location. It is evident that you gain your 'stars' from things like a shop/bar/restaurant and swimming pool etc, so if you don't need these things on hand, we would thoroughly recommend this site.
There are sea view pitches which get quite busy and have little privacy, however we opted for a lane 3 rows back, with high laurel hedging and cabins opposite. The site had a mix of nationalities, however, predominantly French, which was nice, why come to France to be with Brits 24/7?
The small, clean beach is literally 10 yards across from the entrance with safe swimming, the port a little further along is quaint and delightful, a bar on one side, and a restaurant further along.
There is an Aldi within a 10 minute walk, and an excellent bakery in Belz, a five minute car journey away, where there is also a large Super U with very conceiveble food item you could need, including excellent fish and meat counters.
You can order bread via the site if you prefer.
The shower block on site is clean and efficient, and in June was never really busy, albeit in high season, I can imagine it being somewhat strained.
The campsite owners are very friendly, speak good English, and the site is particularly pet friendly.
We cycled from the site to Port Louis (25 miles round) and to Erdevan (15 miles round) and La Trinite Sue Mer (46 miles round), but be sure to get local cycle maps from the Offices de Tourisme as the routes are a little difficult to find, and there is some 'on road' stretches to be aware of particularly the D781.
All in all, if you like a bit more space, like peace and quiet, nice walks and cycleways

    Disliked:

Not being able to reach the ripe plums on the tree on site, which would fall overnight and damage, such a waste 😋

Local attractions

Stroll into the small village of Saint Cado to find local crêperies, little shops and mini markets, and be sure to stick around in the evenings to try the seafood platters and fish restaurants for which the village is known. The local beach is also within walking distance at 300 metres.

Tackle the fishing history of Bretagne at the town of Étel and the Musée des Thonniers, outlining the heritage of the industry as well as the fishermen who died on the river.

The sandy beaches of Erdeven and Plouhinec are also easily accessible from Camping Saint Cado, as are the famed stones of Carnac, the surf at Barre d’Etel, and the (also very beaut) island of Belle-Ile-en-Mer.
