A carefully maintained and lusciously planted camping ground, Camping Les Vergers de Squividan extends over three hectares of greenery in gorgeous southern Brittany. Mature trees shade and shelter the pitches and you’ll have glimpses of the Atlantic Ocean amid the flowering hedges and apple trees prettying up the place. So what can you expect when staying here? Quite a lot, as it happens. A heated indoor swimming pool, with decking to laze on and shallow pools for the kids, for starters – plus a contemporary spa cabin with a sauna and hammam (extra charges apply). As well as playgrounds for the kids, communal areas include a living room with books and games on offer, where you can hang out with family and fellow guests; and there always something going off on site, be it a bread-making class or Breton-themed nights when you can tuck into crêpes and find out all about local culture. Order the night before for a breakfast delivery of freshly baked pastries and bread, and if you don’t feel like cooking every day, sometimes food trucks visit the site. There’s a handy store for any stuff you’ve forgotten, plus a linen-rental service so you can stay light on packing, while a washing machine with tokens is available at reception.

Liked Everything, Beautiful site, nice pitches, clean facilities, owners very helpful especially when we needed to head home early due to a health problem and needed to see a vet to have our dog wormed before returning to the UK, they arranged everything!

Disliked Nothing, only sad that we could not stay longer.

Liked Everything! The hosts were so kind and helpful, everything was so clean, the pool was great, the beach was very close and so was the town. Would definitely recommend it to anyone. It’s useful to bring a bike as the roads are so flat.

Liked Beautiful peaceful orchard site with generous pitches, well maintained, clean facilities. Hosts are welcoming and helpful. Great pizza on Friday night.

Disliked Nothing to dislike but a small shop for essentials would be a plus as the site is a long walk from town. Bikes are advisable.

Liked The site was great with everything you needed. We have a long caravan and they bent over backwards to help us when we said the pitch they’d assigned to us was too small for our liking. I’d recommend asking for pitch 24 if you get the chance, it was huge with areas of both shade and sun. Bread etc available to order was great and a well stocked small shop with essentials. The apple juice produced from the trees on the site was a delightful bonus, even if we thought it was alcoholic at first! Didn’t get chance to try the pizzas as there was a power cut, no fault of the site as was an area wide event, so no power the first time and no stock as they’d had to throw everything out due to no refrigeration. All in all a wonderful stay in a wonderful area, the beach is amazing though we preferred Kersaux beach which was also dog friendly though don’t let that put you off if you don’t have a dog.

Liked Muriel and Fabien were fantastic hosts. Very helpful, friendly and considerate. The campsite was wonderful, sites were well spaced, well kept with clean facilities. The swimming pool was amazing and lovely to be able to use. Being so near a gorgeous empty beach was also an asset. We would definitely go back.

Disliked Perhaps have no noise after 10 pm rules as some families were a little noisy late at night.

Liked This has to be the perfect campsite with something for everyone. It’s in a lovely orchard yet offers a short walk to the beach and views over the sea for some pitches. Super clean sanitaires and it even offers a sauna! We loved it!

Should you ever want to leave this leafy little haven, it’s easy to follow a footpath down to the expansive sandy dunes of Skividen beach (10 minutes’ walk), where you can hike the coastal trail between Guilvinec (40 minutes) and Plobannalec-Lesconil (45 minutes). To explore southern Finistère on foot or on bikes, the Grande Randonnée 34 long-distance trail snakes along the Brittany coastline, leading to dramatic cliffs, peaceful bays for swimming and sandy beaches. The area is also a hotspot for watersports including surfing and kite surfing at Pointe de la Torche (20 minutes’ drive), or you can spend an afternoon trotting along the sands at Skividen on horseback (five minutes). Angling is another favourite local pursuit, so why not take a deep-sea fishing boat out on the Atlantic waves to try your hand at catching sea bass and bream? Other fishy pursuits include guided tours of the fish market at Haliotika (10 minutes), and you can watch the local trawlers come into harbour with their daily catch at Guilvinec. Inland, artisan markets turn up tasty Breton souvenirs like cider, sea salt and canned sardines. Ask at reception for a current schedule of local markets.
