General

  • In the grounds of a Brittany manor park
  • Close to the gulf of Cornouaille and a short drive from Quimper
  • Playgrounds, mini golf, tennis court and pétanque court

Hurrah for Brittany! And hurrah for Manoir de Penn Ar Ster, which has a most scenic setting in the region close to the gorgeous gulf of Cornouaille and a short drive from the utterly fab old old town of Quimper.

There's a beach nearby too, natch, at Kerléven and its marina, and the whole setup is placed right at the gates of the handsome town of Forêt-Fouesnant. And finally but certainly not leastly, the campsite is in the grounds of an old Brittany manor house – how swish.

The site facilities include playgrounds, mini golf, a tennis court, a pétanque court, and a play room. Themed parties are arranged by the campsite team once a week in July and August.

We stayed at this campsite during the October half term and there was hardly anyone else there. The campsite has a fabulous peaceful location yet is in the centre of town, a 2 min walk to the local boulangerie and 5 min walk to the little supermarket. There is a nice nearby restaurant ( again 2 mins walk) where they serve great Moules et frites! We did some pretty easy coastal walks and flat cycling! The beaches are sandy and large and empty at this time of year. There is a local food market on a Sunday at the end of the road which serves great hot food.
The campsite facilities are very clean and modern and Madame thoughtfully lights a portable gas stove every morning so you don't have to shower in a cold room! We will definitely stay here again.

Hidden gem in beautiful setting 11/08/2016

Location: less than two minutes walk from very attractive little town, including fantastic Boulangerie less than 300 yards away.

Lots of attractive walks or cycle rides locally - specially around the bay. Good public transport links (regular buses to Quimper, Concarneau etc for two euros each way).

Beautiful setting, mature grounds, separate, hedged pitches. Fully-serviced.

Calm, relaxing atmosphere - mostly older couples or those with very young children. Mix of touring pitches, statics and chalets.

Wash facilities - new, clean, heated and supplied with toilet roll!

    Unlimited wifi for five euros.

Much better option than the sardine-tin options elsewhere in the area.

    Disliked:

Not much. Road through the town can be busy but there are ample crossing points.

Local attractions

This is a stonkingly scenic area of France and of Brittany, set near the Brittany coast and close to famed old towns, old buildings, outdoor and watery sports, and très tasty seafood.

Manoir de Penn Ar Ster's local village of Forêt-Fouesnant is a seaside place steeped like the rest of this area in Breton history and tradition. It holds regular Breton festivals in summer with food, music and traditional Breton dancing.

Also old and trad is Concarneau seven kilometres away, the small town on the Gulf of Cornouaille with its walled and medieval Ville Close, fishing museum and ferry to the village of Lanriec.

Quimper 15km away is also a must, to see traditional Brittany in miniature at its half-timbered houses, river footbridges and old cathedral. The town's also known for its famed weekly market and its cuisine, particularly seafood.

Activities-wise in the area, a sailing school is in Port la Forêt and a diving school in Concarneau.
